I'd say get a nice 5 channel amp and db571's in the doors with a 10" sub under the seat. Once you heard amped door speakers you never want to turn back! Polk audio kicks *** by the way, and you can't beat their prices.

Thanks for the help guys, I like what I'm hearing.. One thing, I will almost definitely be going somewhere to pay for installation. I couldn't know less when it comes to this sort of thing, seriously. I just want to have a heads up on what I can expect. I feel like the worst thing to do would be to walk into a car audio place and say "i have no idea what i'm talking about."

I'm liking what I read on possibly just replacing the door speakers with some Polk Audio db571 speakers, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB57...571.html?tp=93 . I'm thinking that (maybe overconfident) I could probably just do it myself as well. It doesn't sound that complicated. I'm guessing that this alone would be enough to satisfy me. And if I ended up wanting more I would be able to add on and upgrade with a sub and an amp in the future.

-any other advice as to speakers that I could go with if i decided to only replace the door speakers? Are these what I should be looking at? Will i be much happier if i get these but then get a sub and an amp too?

adding speakers is a breeze. if you have a supercrew the door panels come off really easy. the supercab rear doors can be a little tricky, but my video shows how to do it.

also, you can get the db571's off amazon for a lot less than crutchfield.

sweet, I have a supercab, but I feel like installing myself will be good for me and I can learn from it. I'm sure i can grab a buddy with some experience and get a hand as well. What would the difference between the db571s, and say the mm571s? I see the mm571s are more expensive. Since I was planning on spending maybe 500, I could see spending around 200 on a nice set of speakers. Or would i be just as happy spending 100 (or less on amazon) on the db571s?

I have been installing mobile audio for about 10 years and the best thing i can tell you is start SMALL. start with your door speakers. find a car audio shop that a has speakers on display and ask to listen to several different ones so you can pick out the one you like. I am a fan of Alpine becasue they are very efficient speakers meaning they get louder with less power than other brands... but to each his own...

keep in mind they will sound different in your truck but it will give you a better idea of what they sound like. now once you have your speakers installed, if you think they need more highs, add a pair of tweeters on the dash. You can tweeters aas cheap as 20 bucks a pair....

if you want more bass add a single 10 or 12" sub under the back seat. now that requires an amp and wiring kit and box which can get expensive but you can decent basic setup for around $300 sometimes cheaper.

the mm571's are more expensive but the specs on the speakers are identical. dunno why the difference in price.

the mm571 have broader frequency response from 38-25kHz. the db series range from 52Hz-22kHz. meaning the MM series will reproduce lower frequencies and higher frequencies than the db series. MM series also has cone made of woven material which is stronger and stiffer and lighter to produce the sound more accurately

after looking around and reading what you guys have to say i'm strongly considering getting the polk audio db571's. Looks like they are only around 60$ on amazon for a set of them. Will I want to get two sets of these and install one up front and one set in the back doors? What am i gonna be looking at for installation, it appears ill just have to pop the speaker panel off and replace the speaker, or will i need to take the whole door panel apart? Thanks for the help so far guys, and please if you think i should go a different route and choose some different speakers, let me know.
