I'm in the same boat.
I just got an F150 screw with the Nav/Sony package. I'm not impressed with it at all for a $2500 system.
I was looking at replacing the door speakers with Boston Acc SR-80.
Then I called a stereo dealer in town. They suggested new speakers , a new amp, and adding a subwoofer all for $1600. Its a new truck . I can't see dropping another 1600.
I can install the speakers myself .
How hard is it to install a new amp?
I'm not even thinking about trying a subwoofer

what should I do?

First off, do you want to upgrade the headunit or do you want to keep the factory one?

Those BA speakers aren't bad for the price. But if you plan on amping them in the future I would look at something with a little more power handling.

If you tell us if you what headunit you plan on using, type of music you like, and overall goals of the system(sound quality, lound, boomy, etc) we can help put you together a list of possible products to fit your needs.

Thanks for the reply
well i'm 48 years old and not into head banging anymore. Rock and jazz.

No I really don't want to replace anything in the dash. I was looking at simple fixes. The speakers are rated at 2-75w. (power range: 2-75 watts RMS (200 watts peak power)
I have heard and read that the factory amp isn't all that great.
Will new speakers and a new amp work?
how hard is the install on new amps ? are there issues with connectors not matching?

thanks again

The BA SR-80 are a one piece unit. They are not component with separate tweeters

In that case those BA's will be fine. However, without an aftermarket HU, DSP, or amp your door speakers will only be recieveing around 15watts out of the 75 they can handle. A small 4 channel amp would DRASTICALLY change your mids and highs. You can pick you a decent one for under $150. Also, you would need to purchase a LOC (line output converter). Their are lots of options for the LOC, or you could even use a DSP(digital sound processor) in its place. The DSP offers a HUGE change in SQ. Check out the ALpine C701 or H660.

If you upgrade the sub amp, I highly suggest you change subs. I would assume the factory sub and amp probably put out <200rms. A good aftermarket sub would hit your low notes much better, and let you feel the music.

Whats your budget for everything?

The speakers are $320
an Alpine amp was 250 - http://outlet.crutchfield.com/p_500M...cc=02&tp=35783

and LOC was 120-240 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LCQ1...CQ-1-Gray.html

That's about 7-800 there with no sub
any more than that and i would take it to the stereo shop and let them do it

How hard is it to install this stuff?

If using those BA's I highly recommend this amp. Rockford Power Series offers the 24db/octave crosse's and makes the music slopes sound alot more natural. Here was my first 4 channel amp, and it was absolutely perfect in SQ and Efficiency. http://outlet.crutchfield.com/p_675F...0-4.html?cc=01

Also, I highly recommend staying away from LOC's in general. For the price you pay you could have a DSP and true low level inputs. It enhances SQ exponentially by automatic time alignment, and many other options. In essence its a LOC with many other options and is of higher quality.

Also, since your musical tastes are rock and jazz I suggest;

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500SWR8...-SWR-843D.html

Truly a great sub for quick response and is hard to beat from 50-75hz.

Whats your plan for a box? Do you want two subs? or have a preference for 8" or 10"?
