I'm going to piggyback on this thread, since I'm in the same boat. Stock audio system, Sync 2.2, 8" display. A few questions:

1: What are the stock sizes for the pillars, fronts, and rears on a 2017 XL SuperCab?
2: Is there any advantage to going with smaller than stock and using adapter rings? It doesn't seem to make any sense, other than a slight cost difference.
3: Are adapter harnesses needed for all locations? Any reason not to just re-terminate the existing wiring with the proper sized fast-ons?
4: Finally, recommendations for replacement speakers. I'd think it best to keep all locations matched, at least to the same manufacturer (and series if they make a full set). Or I could be way off base, and mix and match might be the way to go.

TIA for assistance and inputs, loving my new ride.

I just changed mine to Polk 6502 components for the front and Polk 652 for the rear. Crutch field actually just had them on sale (cheap as anywhere else I looked) but they also included wiring harness adapters and well as mounting brackets with all the speakers for free. I also added an amp so my install was a little different. Highly recommend these speakers.

I first replaced my 2016 XLT crewcab factory speakers with the INFINITI direct Ford fit (I honestly don't remember model number but it was recommended by my guy). The amplification was not changed but these INFINITI are punchy and loud! They are like woofer and everything built-in! Then I wanted more adjustability of bass and loudness so I added the Kicker subwoofer and a separate amplifer, no tuning as my guy said it's not necessary unless I'm a super picky audiophile. True enough, no need to set channels and tune because all of these individual units add together making a loud and clear sound, I AM IN FACT a musician but this is good enough for me! My volume level for most recordings is at the 9-12 range, higher than 12 is just too loud. David Bowie's or Phish music are good at 7-9 while early Elton John or Rolling Stone musics needs 12.
Now, a quick word about the "quality" of the sound. I can see how mine is different than if it's tuned by computer. The "surround" or "spatial" effect is not quite there, it's just strong, brutal, raw sound. I had a 2013 LIMITED and also switched out the factory SONY speakers, but due to the already tuned system and the SONY woofer, that truck's sound was like a home cinema, and the vol. level never needed to exceed first first quarter (like 4-6), IT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD. I really wish the 2015+ models kept the previous gen sound system.

Also, to add, I turned my amp to the lower level, because once the **** turns past (say it starts at the 7 oclock position) 3 oclock, I can start to hear static from the little twitters on the dash and A pillars. Hate it. I wonder if only tuning and changing out head unit could eliminate that static.

Sounds like you are getting some distortion from overdriving those "twitters"

Disconnect them. They are made for the factory HU power. You have twitters in the new coax

I have an Alpine KTP-445u, would it cause any damage to amplify the stock speakers? (2018 with 7 speaker non-sony)

it could... you are tripling the power being sent to the stock speakers which were designed for the stock system.
