Upgrade Sound Quality on Factory Radio on 2012 S-Crew
I just purchased a new S-Crew and I love everything about the truck except the sound system. I know in most Audio threads are a bunch of experts on electronics and sound, but I am looking for some advice much more basic. I cannot beleive how poor the quality of sound is in this bad ***** new truck. I upgraded to satellite radio and it has Sync. I want to improve sound quality without reaplceing the whole system. I always like the stock look of the HU as well as all of the benefits of not having an aftermarket system. What is the best way to get better sound. I ma not looking to have the most impressive system, just decent quality sound. Simply replace the speakers? Do I need to have an amp and sub installed? Do i need to replace the whole HU?
With the way the dash is laid out, what happens with the display if you go aftermarket HU? Does it remain and display sync functions, direction and temp?
Any help or advise is appreciated!

I agree, the stock sound is underwhelming. Not unpleasant but not great and it seems likely that upgrading the speakers should help. I don't want to replace the HU and do not at this time want to add an amp and subwoofer.
While I'm not an audio snob at all we do have a decent surround system in the house and I like the crispness that system delivers. On the other hand... it's a truck.
What have people been swapping their factory speakers out for? Was it worth it to make just that one change?

Swapping the speakers will make a significant difference in volume and clarity, even using cheap coaxials. You can do that step and then decide if you want to add amp(s) and sub(s).

I saw these listed in another thread on here. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=269-182 It seems like you lose base with aftermarket speakers even when they are higher quality. Will these have a full sound? I dont want to add a sub and amp just yet.

Also, if you would suggest another speaker that I can replace all four factory speakers under $200 I'm all ears! My goal is cleanest full spectrum sound (I know, add an amp, add a sub, etc. but that's not in the cards right now).
Thanks again,
Mike

Hmmm, they do have the lowest frequency response of the three
Frequency Response 45 - 20k Hz 52 - 22k Hz 65 - 24k Hz
Left to right, kicker, Polk, RF.
Like I said, my goal is better sound than stock, with a full clean sound. Do you think I will actually notice a loss of low end response with any of these?
