I have no idea what I'll do with the other 140 something of these I have left but, they're cheap so I'll deal with that as time goes on. Maybe I'll put up a 'lemonade' stand on the corner.
I'll accept a donation of 26 ferrules (trying to conserve natural resources and waste here) for my build and my son's build......

I have a hydraulic crimper for larger connections. The ferrules don't need to be crimped though. The set screw will be enough to press onto the wire.

Could one not accomplish the same functionality as the crimp by simply tinning the stripped end of the wire and sticking that into the terminal?

Granted the set screw would be bearing down on the actual strands of the wire but the solder should hold everything together.

The idea is, you want the ferrule to crimp. That's part of its structural integrity and how you make sure you have a solid connection. The set screw punches a ring in the ferrule to prevent the wire from being able to be pulled out. If you fill it with solder you will either prevent the ferrule from crimping properly and the set screw from crimping properly or your solder will simply crack and break as you tighten the set screen defeating the whole point of soldering in the first place. Now, ring terminals, different story, but ferrules, a simple crimp is all that's needed.

I haven't even done this yet and I can say that soldering is not necessary. Sliding the ferrule over the wire and holding the ferrule and the wire in place with shrink tube will suffice. Connecting this assembly into the power ports of the amp and tightening the set screw will be enough. The ferrules' purpose is to give the set screw something solid to clamp down on while the ferrule holds and clamps down on the wire and creates the solid connection. You can see the result of this if you study the pics provided by dhmcfadin.

I've thought about 'solder dipping' the exposed wire end but I don't really have enough heat in my current gun to do this. As it is, the current connection is as good as it gets just with bare wire but that's not good enough as sooner or later, it will become loose and detach. The above is a much better solution to a permanent connection.

Ah, I didn't realize crimping wasn't necessary. I just figured you had to use one of the 4-way crimpers on them, and I haven't been able to locate one of those in the required size. Thanks guys!

i use a hydraulic crimper but have one of these as well and it served me well for years, including 0g wire.

Honestly, for many many years, people just shoved wires in the amp and used the set screws with zero issues. I think the ferrules along with shrink wrap is a cleaner way of doing things but definitely not a necessary step.

for many years I've been the guy that always manages to get one strand at one point or another to touch the other terminal! lmao....

I just have the bare wire going into the amp terminals, however after seeing how far the wire goes into the terminal I went a step further. Just wrapped some electrical tape around the where the coating is stripped to ensure no loose strands can touch anything. Works for me.
