SUBS....What have you done!?

Hey all,

I'm still on the hunt for what I want to do for subs. In my previous trucks, I had a single 12" in a ported box, that sat on my rear passenger seat. Way back in the day, I tried an MTX Thunderform box for my 97 F-150, it added low end, but not enough. Tried several different subs and boxes, all in my 97 until I realized you can't beat a real sub in a real box. I've been running that for almost 15 years, in 3 different trucks.

Recently got a new 2017, F-150 Lariat SuperCrew, and looking for new options. I have been liking having my full back seat again, and am considering under the seat boxes again. What have you guys been doing, how low do they go, how hard do they hit, and of course, how do they sound?

I have all my components for the rest of my install, but still trying to figure out sub. I am using the factory 8" head unit, that I will splice the speaker output using a Parrot adapter into a Zapco Z8 DSP processor, then into a Phoenix Gold TI 1600.5 5 channel amp. From the amp, I'll run Phoenix Gold TI 6.5 components up front, and 6.5 pointsource/coaxial in back. Just still can't make up my mind on subs. What do you have? Show some pics of your installs too please!

I did this:

a single shallow 12" sealed and 450Wrms amp behind the back seat.

I'm running a 12 inch kicker compRT 500 rms dual 1 ohm shallow mount sub in a single downfire subthump enclosure under my back seat. Pushing it with a 600 rms JL amp. It's sounds awesome with rap but lack a little on rock. Either the lack in base in the factory ford speakers is hindering rock or the speaker level signal is a little too dirty. In any event I'm gonna replace all the door speakers with kickers and push them with a JL 400 rms 4 channel amp and with the doors all sealed with dynamat I'm hoping it will sound better with rock. If not I'm gonna use the forscan codes the make the signal better and if that dosnt do it I guess I'll have to install a dsp.
UPDATE: I did in fact replace all door speakers with kickers and dynamated inside the door and inside the door panel. Got the local audio shop to do the forscan thing and tune the system. Sounds amazing.

I put (4) 8" subs in (2) sealed boxes under the back seat down firing. I did two boxes so they are easier to remove when we go on trips with the dogs.

I haven't had a sealed box in many many years and they are much different than ported. Honestly, I'm not sure if I like them. They get low and they are punchy, but I just don't "feel" them like my old single 10" ported in my old hatchback.

For now, I'm happy because it was an ultra cheap system, but I may change them out eventually for a ported set. I will say doing two boxes instead of one giant one is much much better for portability.

I have two (2) Jlaudio 10w3v3 powered with an earthquake audio D2 (shredder) amp. they are wired for 1,000W rms in a sealed downfire box under the rear seat of my screw cab. Sounds amazing for most music genre. Can lack a little with the really low hz, but I'm extremely happy. Very clean and packs a great punch!

Single JL Audio 10TW3 in a sealed down fire box, being fed by the stock head unit into a FIX86 processing for the ArcAudio XDI 850.5 amp. Still have work to do and need to balance the system better but sounds pretty darn good.

i just installed 2 6.5" DD audio subs under my back seat, Replaced all the door speakers and tweeters with Diamond audio speakers on a 1000 watt DD amp.

Added the seat riser kit and put three 10" Alpine Type R's under the backseat. Still a tad small for the box volume but it works alright.

I went with 2 8" JL W3's in a ported enclosure under the back seat. If I recall, I'm feeding them about 200 watts rms each. I think they sound great! Obviously they're not going to rattle the car next to you, but that's not what I was going for. They certainly get pretty low for 8" subs, and the SQ is much better than what I expected!

I have a NVX mono amp and used the Kicker CompRT 10 sub and it fit easily behind the seat so i can retain all of my space under the rear seats
