stereo help
I have a 2006 6 disc mp3 cd player and it plays cds but only the first few songs then starts to skip... anyone have anysuggestions? maybe need to pull the cd player out and clean the lens? I also was wondering if anyone had a link or figured out how to use the controls on the steering wheel with an aftermarket stereo? any ideas or input is appreciated...

If the CD player is starting to skip, you can clean the laser with a cleaning disc to try and fix it, but 9/10 the player is going bad and there really is no point in futzing with it.
If you buy a head unit from crutchfield, they will include (or at least tell you) which wiring adapters you will need to retain steering wheel control. They will also include the dash panels to mount your new stereo.

I have the harness sitting on my kitchen table right this second. Yes, it will definitely work and the harness is vehicle specific, not stereo specific. So any aftermarket stereo that supports it will work. Almost all head units now support it, crutchfield will list if it does not, or if there is a unique one for that head unit.

I have the steering wheel control adapter hooked up to my after market alpine w505 it works but it's very hit or miss they are very light sensitive and locations to place the sensor are limited because of direction and distance... I don't use my steering wheel controls too much now because it's more of a hassle I just keep my remote close... Look under my screen you can see a small infared sensor... That's for the adapter

You are talking about something else.. the factory steering wheel controls will work with aftermarket head units with an adapter cable. It us hard wired, no sensors involved.
It is part of a wiring harness. That is what the OP is asking about.
