steps to connect an amp?
Hi guys
so... if i have a (+) wire coming from the battery to inside the truck, protected with a 40 AMP fuse, and i want to connect a 4 way amp:
1. i run that wire all the way to back of the back seat
2. run a signal wire from the head unit to the amp in the back seat.
3. run the wires from the front and rear preamp outputs from my head unit to the amp.
4. run wires from the amp output and join them to the original speakers wires in the console area.
that is it, right?
its my understanding that as i have front and rear preamp outputs, i can use a 4-Channel Amplifier right?
thank you

You're correct. A couple of tips:
1)Run the power and signal wires separately. IE: If you run the power and turn-on (blue wire) down the passenger side, run your RCA signal wires down the driver's side.
2)Be sure you clean the contact point for the negative ground wire really well, to the point where you may need to sand straight through the paint to the metal underneath.
3)Run your speaker wires from the amp up to the head unit's adapter connector - don't splice then into the stock wiring harness. Run them with the RCA cables and not the power wire.
Good luck!

8 ga means to use 8AWG wire as well? if so, 8 AWG wire seems to be rated to 40A...
According to this table (For 12DC), http://www.windsun.com/Hardware/Wire_Table.htm
seems that with an 8 AWG wire, i can keep 40AMP at 8ft (very close to the distance between battery and amplifier) or 30AMP at 11ft...
