I have a 2014 and it takes 15-20 minutes to upgrade speakers in each door. Super easy if you have the proper speaker connector which attaches to the factory wiring connector. Check google or youtube.

Just thought I'd post an update on my upgrade of the front speakers (my apologies to the OP if this isn't what he's interested in).

Decided to go with the Kenwood Excelon KFC-X683C 6x8's. I did figure out that I don't have the SOny system - just the bottom end Ford jukebox - but with the 6 CD changer (I'd trade that for the next level stereo!).

The new speakers really are much better than the factory units. I get a much clearer sound and I can crank it up to an "annoy the neighbors" level without it distorting. I like them well enough that I will look at replacing the rear units as well before too long.

Thanks for all the useful/helpful info everyone brings to the forum!

O.K. I did the upgrade on the rear, BUT, Before I started the drivers side door speaker was dead. I replaced with Rockfords and that same speaker still has nothing. Used the Mtra adapters. Passenger side works great. Where should I be looking for the usual wiring problems I have heard of with these trucks. 09 Lariat Screw. I'm gonna tackle the fronts when I have someone there to hold the panel so I don't have to bother unhooking the door latch cable.

You don't have to unhook the door latch panel cable. The plastic piece pops out of the door panel. Do that and unclip all the wires, the door panels comes off.

Fronts are done. Easy job. They sound better than the stock speakers ever did. I can get the rear driver side speaker to work by manipulating the wires in the door jamb. Guess I have some splicing to do.

Have a '13 FX4 with the Sony system. Did a poly fil today and that made a big impact. Sunday my order of JBL Club 8620 arrives and I will toss those in. I had it narrowed down to Infinity Kappa, polks and Alpine Spr 68. However after talking with two different audio shops both said I would be wasting money if not duing sub. One recommended an Alpine S series the other JBL Club 8620. Hopefully I made a good choice.

Not looking forward to digging around in the door jamb splicing wires. Oh well, won't be the first time.

Look for one that may have a rub and grounding out
