The benefit of the CleanSweep is that it takes the factory signal and de-EQ's it so you've got a nice flat signal to work with, boosts it and then sends it out, nice and clean to an aftermarket amp. If you use the remote volume you get even better results because the factory stereo will change the EQ dependent on the volume (raising bass at low volumes, cutting it at high volumes, etc).

Running the Cleansweep out to an amp, you'd just need to use the front mid and tweeter outputs to send to the Cleansweep. That's all it would need to get a fullrange signal, process it and deliver it to the amp. Then from the amp, you would run a new set of speaker wires to the front and rear speakers.

It's really not that hard to do. It'll take some trial and error but it ain't brain surgery. Finding your mounting locations and routing all the wires is the hardest and most time consuming parts. Hooking everything up isn't that hard if you can follow directions. If I can do it, trust me, anybody can.

McLeod, thanks for the input. But, that is where it gets confusing to me. I would need to tie in to the mid and tweeter wires from the output of the Sony amp then run them to the aftermarket amp? Why wouldn't you use all the wires coming out of the Sony amp? The front (mid and tweeter), rear and the sub-woofer? Also would I run the wires to the Focal cross-over then split to the tweeter and mid? I have run stereos in the past but this set up has me majorly confused.

That's if you're using a CleanSweep (it's now the Fix. They don't make the CleanSweep anymore). Using that, all it needs is a full range stereo signal, it processes and clean up that signal then splits it out thru 2-8 channels to your amp(s). JL recommends using as few inputs as possible. The more you use, the harder it is to sum and clean up the signal.

And yes, you'd run the speaker wires from the aftermarket amp's outputs to the crossover then the crossover will have 2 sets of outputs, 1 for the mid's and 1 for the tweeter.

The clean sweep combines the mid and tweeter signals from the Sony amp so your new amp gets a full range signal to run to your new speaker crossovers. No need to do that with the sub.

Yeah I may be just beating a dead dog but I was following a post on putting in resistors on all the speaker outputs before routing them into the "cleansweep" or DSP and another thread where they are bypassing the Sony amp altogether (not sure if the same McLeod is posting on that thread as the one on this thread)! I just want to do it once and never have to worry about it again...

Since I do not want to mess with the time and expense with a cleansweep or equivalent, I am going to just swap speakers and connect to factory wiring and Sony amp/crossovers. I will give it some time. If I want more I will install the aftermarket crossovers. Upgraded the tweeters to JBL and a major difference from the Sony.
