Default Non-B&O Bass Needed

Hey Everyone,

I've got a 22 F150 with the Non-B&O 7 speaker system. it is "OK" but needs some bass. I'm planning on installing some subs. I'm looking at possibly trading 2 8" Kicker CompRT's for 2 10" PhoenixGold MX10D2's... But I don't know anything about PhoenixGold. I've also got an old Alpine Type-R 10" (SWR-1041D) laying around. So I guess i have a few questions.

I know I want to go with a ported box and I have to buy a new box anyway.
1.
Does anyone have any experience with PhoenixGold Subs? and if so.. Would the trade be worth it?
2. Should I keep the 2-8" and install them?
3. Install the old school monster Alpine Type-R?

Thanks for looking.
-Mike

Look at the Fox Acoustic enclosures for the Ford F150. Then throw in two 10" DVC Sundown audio 500rms subs on a sundown audio SAI1250.

Looks like you have 3 good choices that will work. If you already have the 8s then that is what i would use

I am looking at Fox Acoustics for an enclosure. 👍

I already have the 2- 8” Kickers as well as the 1- 10” Alpine. The 8’s were in a 1.5 cuft ported box in my Tundra and I found myself wanting a little more bass out of them. Maybe a slightly larger box or adding to the 8’s will give me what I’m looking for. 🤔

First thing you need to address is how much space are you willing to give to the sub enclosure and of course location will factor into this choice as well.

I’m willing to give the rear underseat area. I tend to not store a bunch of stuff in my truck, so that area doesn’t get used.

Under seat you’d probably get the most from a four 8” setup. Box is as important as subs (probably more if we’re being honest) so do your homework.

My bad I got derailed from what you initially posted, I have seen 10” subs in under seat boxes that fire forward like the 8” box setups as well. You’ll want to give whatever subs you have the recommended airspace at least within 10% either way smaller or bigger and port tuning in the low 30s is what you’ll want for the low lows. I’d keep the Kickers as well it’s not an upgrade to those 10’s.

I looked up those PG subs, shallow mounts....NA. Not needed with the Fox Acoustic enclosure either. If you want to stay within stock electrical the Fox is the best option. If you want more bass four 8's with substantially better subs is the route but more power as well. If you want to go that route I am VERY happy with my Gately Enclosure and four Gately Relentless subs. Well I say happy but I'm about to switch to two 15" Sundown Audio ZV6's and Sundown Audio SALT-8 at .5.
