Default Seeking advice on upgrading stock sub and amp in '07 Lariat.

I have an '07 Lariat Supercrew
I want to replace my stock 8'' sub and amp with an aftermarket sub that will fit inside the same box.
I can put a bigger amp under the rear pass. seat if needed.
I also want to mount a bass gain control inside the console.

What sub/amp combo would yall recomend?
I would like to keep the price under $300

Heres what im thinking...

Skip keeping the stock plastic box. Upgrade to a single standard depth 10 and put the amp behind the seat back so you don't lose any room. You'll have to pickup an amp kit to handle the upgraded amp anyways. You should be able to find the Atrend box or something similar for around $100.

Do this. See if you can find a sub that will fit that isn't a shallow mount

Well. I had to order a new head unit today... My radio froze and wont do anything.
Ive only had the truck 3 weeks and this happens. Oh well, i guess its a reason to upgrade.
I went with a Pioneer double din. Ive always had great luck with pioneer so im staying true and keeping with the brand.
Im also ordering a AXXES steering wheel control module. The sub and amp will have to wait awhile

I can't stand the new pioneers. They dropped off since 2008. I do miss my 6000ub though..
