The same old song and dance, Sony subwoofer replacement
#12
So the factory amp would likely be inadequate. Bummer. I've seen so many threads with people complaining about the Sony sub (it IS pretty terrible), and I thought this might finally be an easy solution to throw under that cramped seat. I've been toying with the idea. I don't want a giant, custom fab'd box again. Been there, done that. You lose too much valuable space under the back seat, it weighs too much, and I don't need a 150db system. Looking for something that can easily unplug when I need the space. Thanks for the reply!

The major issue with the Sony systems is all the processing is done in the factory amp, that said trying to do anything after the factory amp will be an effort in futility from an SQ standpoint. Cant add back in what has already been processed out - even with high end gear like a BitOne. Sure you can amplify again but garbage in/garbage out so YMMV. I don't know if anyone has been successful intercepting the signals from the Sony HU in front of the factory amp. If so I would be interested to know how that was done.
