There wasn't a loose connection, I soldered all the wires, then soldered them again several times to ensure a proper connection after trying to figure out what the problem was.
In the end I ended up just using posi connectors because of how many times I took everything apart and reconnected it.
I hooked up the purple wires from the receiver to the white wires on the harness, got sound. Hooked up the white wires from the receiver to the purple wires on the harness, no sound. It wasn't until I switch the purple wires around that I finally got sound. I tried it again with the white wires, hooked purple from the receiver to white with a black stripe in the harness & purple with a black stripe on the receiver to white on the harness and got sound.
