Default Poor man's sound deadening

Didn't want to foot the bill for dynamat, so I used some ice and water shield that I had laying around from a job. I covered the big holes with 1/8" masonite, then stuck this underlayment to the door panels and sealed around the MDF. This stuff is really sticky and actually made a huge improvement in the sound. An entire roll of this stuff which covers 225sqft. is about $90. Go ahead and bash me, but I'm telling you, it works.

No need to bash. I've seen it done before and it works!

Ironically, I thought about trying this 15 years ago while working for my Dad's construction company as it looked very similar to Dynamat, etc. and I was doing custom audio installs on the side.

Very cool to see someone gave it a shot!

This looks like the move of a resourceful man...... What is the thickness of this stuff and where does an ordinary person get some of it?

I will get back to you on the thickness. You can buy it at your local lumber yard. Ask for the "Grace" brand ice and water. There is another kind that they sell at home depot, etc. but it's granulated, doesn't stick very well, and isn't quite as thick.

This stuff is a thickness of 40mil, where dynamat extreme is 44mil.

It's thinker than the roof flashing from lowes. Good job on this. It won't do quite as much for resonation but it will block the waves from interacting. Every thing helps
