Default Pioneer AVH-4100NEX returned

Good morning all,

After trying to figure out why this radio's screen tilt buttons are grayed out and why the eject face plate button does not work I decided to just return it to Amazon. With that said I am now in the market for another head unit. I have been reading reviews from Cutchfield but would love to hear any recommendations from the f150 forum people. I don't necessarily need navigation built in but want the unit to have Android Auto capability. Met a guy at one of our local shops whose family owned and ran a car audio shop in town for over 30 years and he told me to stay away from Pioneer as they have had numerous units come up with problems. He said Kenwood, Jensen, Alpine, and Clarion were brands that they have had the best experience with. My audio upgrade for my truck is turning into a nightmare.

Sounds like you got a bad unit. Pioneer is usually very good. Kenwood would be my next choice.

I went with that unit originally because I liked the idea of being to remove the face plate for security reason. But now I am guessing that if someone broke into my vehicle and stole my head unit that my insurance would cover that. I mean isn't that why we pay those outrageous premiums. Now to contact my insurance company to verify that. If my deductible applies then it would be a wash.

Expensive.... but i have a Alpine X008u with all the bells and whistles. its been great so far, in the process of wiring door speakers from the Alpine 4 channel amp i got. although if i didnt live in a relatively safe location, i would be a little worried about it getting stolen

Sounds like you got a bad unit. I had a 5100NEX in my Denali and really liked it. I never took the screen off as I figure that's what insurance is for - and really, everyone has navigation and touchscreens now so are they really that big of a theft risk?

I'm about to get a Kenwood for my F150 so the jury is out on how I will like it or not. Garmin maps should be a nice touch vs. the Navteq that Pioneer uses (for what it's worth, Navteq is what many OEM navi systems use). I thought the Pioneer had a slightly better user interface, but only Kenwood and Alpine work 100% with the iDatalink Maestro, which gives some functionality that I wanted.

The 2016 Pioneers(4200,5200 etc) have full iDatalink Maestro support.

The Maestros cant do much more than steering wheel controls with our trucks (04-08), I have one but not necessarily worth it.

True, I wish they came up with something for F150. I would throw away the stock Sony.
