Pics for install
I'm getting ready to start slowly installing my amp/LOC/speakers. Pics, or tips on where to run wires would be greatly appreciated. Especially the power wire, and front speakers. I will be installing the amp and LOC behind the seat. Can I just mount them directly to the carpet, or is a piece of MDF necessary? If so, where do I drill the screws in? I don't wanna mess up and drill through the cab Thanks for any tips. I'll try and snap pics during the install. -Mac

Velcro sounds good, just worried about long time use. Anyone have tips on removing the oem stereo to attach these harnesses?

I couldn't find these cheaper than on sonic. Even Ebay was more expensive.

Not sure if you need all those connections or not, but look at the BT-5520 harness:

It already has the connections made that you need. I bought mine at Sonics as I couldn't find a lower price and shipping cost combo.
You do not want to mount your amp to the carpet - do some searching on other F150 installs with pic's. Best method is MDF which allows for modification and changes. For a simple install, direct attachment of each component works also. There are ribs on the back wall where you will want to mount your equipment to. It will be apparent when you remove the carpeting.

Is it necessary to cut out the area to mount the MDF as compcoder did in his install? Where's the best spot to run the amp power wire into the engine bay? Also, if a mod sees this can you please change the thread title to "tips for install" Would prolly be more appropriate.

I used plastic adapter plates from ebay that allowed me to mount 5 1/4 inch speakers and tweets in the same location where oem speakers are / were. I didn't want to drill a hole elsewhere....
As far as mounting the amp I paid close attention to Comcoder's post for my install & am happy with it. I posted pics in another thread where I was asking for advice too. I ran my power cable through firewall on driver's side. Theres a spot or two there you can use. I've seen another option is to run it outside of the truck to the back of the cab and enter there. You can search for this or maybe someone else will chime in with more experience.

There is enough space there to squeeze one. The air vent is mounted with plastic that is pretty flexiable so you can wedge one under and not have any issuses. I recommend using a knife to cutting the trim. BTW the focal tweeters in mine had a mounting depth of 17.3 mm or .68 inches.
