Default Not satisfied with replacement speakers

So, got my truck (in my sig line - I think LOL) back in 2013 November; and around 2014 I had two sets of Alpine SPS-517 speakers installed. I've got the XLT with the 4.2" unit.

What I like about them: The mids/highs are more clear and louder.

What I DON'T like about them: The bass hits nowhere near as hard. I'm not sure if the speakers' sensitivity rating isn't as high, or they just aren't as good, but the bass in the stock speakers (at least it seems to me) was not only louder but tighter.

I'm at the point where I'm contemplating putting the stock speakers back in, but am wondering (for those who have experience with this particular radio) if there are speakers out there that are comparable to or better than the stock speakers, in terms of bass output.

(NOTE: Yes, I plan to put in a subwoofer in the next year or so, but we just put an addition on our house, so right now it's not in the cards, nor is a head unit replacement.)

Yeah, I'm aware a sub will help me out, but right now it's a money thing. It'd be minimum of probably $500 to have a sub installed, whereas reinstalling the stock speakers (or even another 2 sets of speakers) would be substantially cheaper.

Gimme 6 months to a year and a sub is a possibility...just not right now.

Well .. I'm just thinking out loud here...You had the money to replace perfectly fine stock speakers and now can't afford a sub ? Maybe you should put the stock speakers back in and sell the ones you don't like to help with a Sub..

Not sure if you read my comment above in the original post.

Yes, I have money, no I'm not flat broke....but until the house addition is done, I don't want to commit funds to things that aren't that necessary. I could do $200 or so but don't want to commit more than that right now.

Besides, when the time comes, I'll most likely do the Soundstage Upgrade (SuperCab), which is going to at least cost $600 + install.

Rockville is junk IMO. But the OP does need a compact powered sub. Should be able to find one for $200. Even used would work. That will solve the problems. Door speakers are not made for bass but for clarity like the OP is experiencing. You could get a single 8 or 10" with an amp and box for $200 also.
