It appeared today that my maps on the navigation somehow lost all the roads except for major roads. No side streets or anything.

So I called Kenwood up and they told me to upgrade to the latest firmware (Version 1.6). So I downloaded it and installed it in accordance with the pdf on the update webpage. Took about 10 minutes to update.

It reboots and I go to click on "view map" and the navigation freezes. Not the head unit itself...just the navigation portion of the head unit. So I reboot it again, and then I click on the "where to" icon. My saved addresses were gone (as I figured they would be) so I go to click on the address to type in an address and I get a pop-up that says "no map data available". Great.

Reinstalled the update a couple more times, and got the same results.

Called Kenwood back and they said it's a known problem that a lot of people are encountering. One tech I talked to said they're working on a new firmware to fix this "no map data available" problem and then I got disconnected when I went out to get the serial number from my truck. So I called again and got a different tech and they told me that the new firmware "might" fix it and right now the only way to fix this is to send my head unit into a service center (NY, NJ, VA or CA are all they have....nothing in the midwest). Good god I'm so frustrated right now. I really don't want to go without a stereo for a month that it's likely going to take to fix it and send back.

Anyone else have this problem here? I don't know how many people here have bought one of these new 2013 Kenwood nav units...but they did say it's kind of common in the new ones I guess.
