Default Need an amp for my Focals.

So the Focal components are all up and running. But I'm afraid my Alpine 50x4 isn't gonna cut it. The speakers call for 70 watts rms. Looking for suggestions on an amp. Like the JL xd400/4 so far.

What is your taste in the various brands? Some like Alpine, JL, etc.. some do not. Do you have any preference?

In my last vehicle (a 2000 4runner), I ran an Alpine PDX-F4 to push my Image Dynamics 100w RMS door speakers. It did so flawlessly. The amp is rated at 100x4, and the birth sheet state 124 watts channel. I loved the amp bc of it's small size (fit under a front seat). They can also be stacked and customized with colored trim rings. The quick connect system for all the wiring was also nice if I needed to remove it or anything.

I run the Focal FFP 4100 in my truck and it works flawlessly. Great SQ for the mid-grade price. The FPS will run you up-to and over 1K.

As for the PDX, I think Joe use to run these in his truck and changed to JL. He said it made quite a bit of difference in clearing up the different frequencies and S/N . I like the efficency, but I would stick with Class A, B, or AB for better improved SQ.

The JL HD's are highly recognized along with many others. Do you have anything in mind?

The JL XD400/4 and the Alpine PDX4 were my top two picks so far. My real question is how much power I want to send the speakers. As I said they call for 70 watts per channel, but, I know if I get a 70x4 for a perfect match it still won't send the full 70. So I am thinking 100 (or even more) is safer. I am considering, for trial purposes, disconnecting my rear channels and bridging my current Alpine. This would send 150 watts per channel through my front soundstage and give me an idea of what that kind of power will do. I'm just a little scared to pump that kind of wattage into a 70 rms speaker.

Class D. Zed Audio, the Leviathan or Dreadnought. Pure SQ

Class A/B- take your pick, so many
Masconi
Audison
Arc
Zapco

It will boil down to your budget.

I would get an amp capable of at least twice the RMS rating. Plenty of headroom with plenty if you decide to upgrade again.

The highest scoring IASCA competition car in history was powered by JL HD series amps. Just sayin...
