My 2015 "upgrade" finally
Been wanting to get rid of the crappy 4.3 inch sync since I bought the truck. Set a budget of 800.00 bucks to do it. I'm not big time into car audio but wanted more then the sync, I got tired of saying "call the wife" and hearing sync tell me "calling frank" and wanted a little better sound. Worst piece of crap system ever put in a Ford.
Here's what I got:
Joying 7 inch Android 6.0 double din head
Pac dash kit 2015 up F150
Alpine 4x 45w rms mini amp
total cost= 747.00 plus a couple bucks for connectors.
Rooted the head unit and added busybox and viper audio.
paired my OBD2 adapter so I have Torque dials on the screen now
Sound? Much better then the stock Sync unit was, (I may upgrade the speakers next as the Alpine is too much for them even being only 45w rms.)
Kewl stuff? You bet:
OK google works, you can also ask directions while driving to the nav app. Bluetooth calling works flawless.
PAC kit works great, I have ALL steering wheel controls, everything was "plug and play" installing. I even retain the usb plugin in the center console to plug music into. Amp fits in dash under head unit, and can use factory wiring.
Best part? I have full internet on it while I drive. Pandora, Tune in radio, even Youtube. I have a spare phone with unlimited data and tether it to the head unit via wifi hotspot.
The GPS antenna works great on top of the head unit in the dash hidden.
It took hours of research, some frustrating moments learning to root a device , but in the end its a system that puts the old sync unit to shame, and looks factory installed, and has more kewl stuff and better sound. I couldn't of even got a head unit from a major manf. ( kenwood, alpine, etc) for what I have into all of this with the dash kit and amp
. Plus its not locked down since its Android and half the fun is customizing it to make it yours and different form everyone else.
