My 2010 F150 iPad Install for $56
 

Hello, this is my first post. I just paid off my 2010 F150 XLT and have freed up the money to customize and upgrade bits and pieces.

I saw a youtube video where an fabrication shop had installed an ipad in my same exact truck. When I went to the company's website to order the stuff to do it myself, I discovered the project would cost me aproximately $1500 without the ipad. So I set off on the following adventure and did this for $56 (excluding the ipad):

$25 double din dash receiver kit
$11 flush ipad mini wall mount
$2 lightning cable
$3 can of primer
$10 can of texture paint
$5 can of satin black spray paint

I cut both the ipad wall mount and the dash trim to where they were a rough fit. Then plastic welded them together using a plastic welder from harbor freight and ABS welding rods. Sanded it smooth, primered, textured, and painted.
I ran the lightning cable from the precut hole in the wall mount down behind the trim piece and plugged it into the sync usb port. Installed everything and boom - done.

Total project time took 6 hours.

Steering wheel controls and microsoft sync still work for volume control, bluetooth for my phone, media selection, etc.

Props to you for doing it yourself; I've seen crazy prices for these installs (from shops) and the mounts can get really pricey. Looks good to me!

Good question - should've mentioned that - The mount dash is angled slightly which does most of the holding. However, I had some rare earth magnets left over from a different project and glued them to the back of the mount. iPads use solid state drives so I'm not really worried about messing anything up data wise.

Sync voice commands and the media button on my steering wheel navigate between media functions.

I've seen other guys use fiberglass and bondo to make their own but plastic welding is so much easier, cleaner, and quicker.

How easy is it to remove or do you not remove the iPad often

So how does this integrate with your trucks factory radio? I would like more info. I am currently running a kenwood HU that controls a 4channel amp and a mono amp that push my 4 3ways and a 10'' sub. Can I install an ipad and retain the control I have over my sound system?
