Default Major advice

Alright, I'm new to the forum, a young kid, and have no idea what I'm doing with car stereo. I have 2 10" planet audio big bang subs and a planet audio 1500w amp with a pioneer DEH-1700 head unit. I need new door speakers. One rattles all the time so I'm just gonna replace all four. I found some Polk Audio 5x7s on craigslist for $30 each. Don't know if they're any good? And I'm interested in speaker kick panels. I don't know which way to go. Got about $120 to spend. Don't have tweeters either.

Polk aint a bad speaker. Its in the upper mid level I would personally say. As far as the kick panels, thats where I would go after you do the door speakers. Save up and get some.

If I do go with the kick panels. They said I need a 2 channel amp. Will they not just work on the amp I use for my subs?

Usually a separate amp is needed because subs and mids use different frequencies. Your amplifier should have a some sort of selector for the frequencies you can output. There are amplifiers that output multiple frequencies but the are usually used for a component system( separate tweeters and mid range speakers).

Is the mid/tweeter combined into 1 unit or do they mount in different areas?

Skip the kicks, from personal experience. Although they offer far better path lengths, they can draw down the sound stage, especially if you're not going super high end.

Just put some components on the front doors with a cheap two channel to start with.

But do I really need to go component? Are they better than just putting in some new Rockford 5x7s?

You don't have to, but you can do it for the same price if you shop online. RF has become box store crap since BB picked them up.
