i am not sure what to think now. i have been waiting for the maestro for a while. But i need my sat radio.
JDVASS how is yours working with the other module. do you still have voice controls. and do your steering wheel controls work the same. does the sync work or is it the bluetooth in the radio you are using. i know so many questions but i don't want to spend a buch of money and have it not work the way i want. mabey i'll just trade in for a truck with the nav system. The wife will love that.

The other module is working very well. Sync no longer operates but the Kenwood does pretty much everything that sync does anyway. The volume, channel, and media buttons on the steering wheel function as normal. The "say a command" button and the phone hang up button both work as mute (or attenuation as Kenwood calls it). I am using the bluetooth in the stereo. The voice recognition for dialing isn't quite as good as with the sync but thats a trade off I'm willing to make. The sound quality for calls is excellent. The sound quality music wise is way better also and I still have the factory speakers in. The backup camera is awesome I must say. I was amazed at how well it works in low light.
I bought the Kenwood so I wouldn't have to have a portable GPS and my portable satellite radio suction cupped to the windshield. If sync is that important to you and you can live without satellite radio or with a portable unit the Maestro is the way to go. In the short time I had it in my truck it worked very well. If you want all in one and can live without sync its not the unit for you. If iDatalink comes up with a module that will somehow allow the satellite radio tuner to work as well I will probably purchase it. Until then I can live without the sync.

I have been watching this unit as I want to add backup camera but want to keep all the controls and sync and satellite radio. Guess we wait further

The DNX9990HD is not the only radio Maestro works with. There is a complete line of DNX models including some that are much more affordable.
Again, Maestro isn't going to work for you if you have an active sat radio subscription and need sat radio more than Sync. The competitive interfaces will help you there, but their integration with Sync is not nearly as nice Maestro's.

That is correct as Kenwood is the only one to add the iDatalink serial protocol to the radios (2012 DNX navigation models). We would love to work with other radio manufacturers and hearing from customers that this is something people want can help make that happen.

It is no slower to start up than the Alpine units I looked at in the store. Of course they could all be faster at starting up in my opinion. One nice feature is even if the start up screen is still on and you put your truck in reverse the back up camera picture comes up right away. On the main screen the old DNX6980 & DNX9980 were slit-your-wrists slow no matter what you were doing. But the 9990 is very responsive. I'm very satisfied with this unit. Two thumbs up.
