components with stock HU?
hi all, i have a stock HU without the factory sub. however, i am installing a 10 sub under my back seat, and i want to upgrade the front speakers. i am considering some clarion components to run with the stock HU. they require 5-60 watts RMS.
will this setup sound better? im not looking for a competition set up, just something better than stock.
thanks in advance.

Speakers will improve the sound, but i would also replace the headunit. Honestly, they are crap. I ran aftermarket speakers with the OEM unit but doesnt compare when i put an aftermarket HU.

yeah if youre gonna put out the money for speakers and a sub, i wouldnt settle for the stock head unit itl just hold you back as far as sound goes. id get the head unit, doesnt even have to be an expensive one. then id think about speakers and subs. but thats just me.

well, i already have the amp and sub from a previous vehicle.... and, it only cost me about 40 dollars in material to build my sub box..... so thats why i figured if i just get the speakers for now i will still notice an improvement. then, down the road MAYBE the HU. im just not a big fan of the install kits these days, and i dont want to get a double din radio either... im too cheap for those, and they have way more features than i would ever need... we only have 2 radio stations here, and my CD's, so it doesnt have to be too high tech !!

yeah i know what you mean about the double dins, f150s all come with the space for one but im just not up for spending 450+ dollars on a head unit!
and yeah thatd work too, im sure youll hear a pretty big improvement regardless of the head unit.

no need for a totally new head unit, IMO you could even find a "used one" second hand in good shape if you wanted to go that route. But i did the subs/amps on a beer budget right out of high school and if you're like i am, happy that you have something better than what was in there before regardless of what full potential being reached or not! if i spend forty bucks and it sounds two times better than it was before that...im happy...

I have a stock head unit and all 4 door speakers (regular cab) replaced with Boston door speakers...I had a Rockford 10" truck sub and hated it...didn't hit well at all..so I sent it back an I am getting something else...dont know what though...but yea the new door speakers sound nice... eventually I might replace the head unit, but thats just going to increase the chances of my vehicle getting broken into...even with a Viper alarm and tinted windows I don't think I would trust it
