Default New Sub, Have some questions

OK so the other day ago i was listening to some music not very loud and my sub blew out.... I knew the day was coming because my sub is about 4 years old and i could smell burning from it sometimes after a hard play. My old sub was a 10" MTX thunder 5500 series and I have a pioneer 760 watt max power amp powered by mosfet... I decided to get alittle more powerful sub this go around so I went with a 10" alpine type R. My question is will I need to change any of the settings like my gain on my amp to get the fullest potential out of my new sub, since it can handle a substancially larger amount of power than my old sub?

you would need to turn the gains up all the way. the amp u have is not quite powerful enough for an alpine type r. it will work ur sub just wont be at it full potential. it would go with a mono sub amp with around 400-500 RMS

The ratings on that amp are 125 x 2 RMS. That should be on your highs or maybe a single type S 10.
I have a pair of Type R's in my truck powered by 2- JBL 1200's. I've NEVER smelled anything burning and thats with 1200 RMS watts per sub and a 5v Kenwood headunit driving the amps.
What happened to your sub is why people say your more likely to blow a sub from a amp thats too small than from a amp thats too big.
You were probably pumping out 75% distortion and thats what cooked the coils.

i got the 10" alpine type r and this sub is wayyy underpowered haha.. 380 watts rms is not enough for this bad boy at all. the pain now is i have to get a 4 guage wire setup and im getting a 1200 watt hifonics brutus amp, which will not cope with my little 8 gauge wires.
