Default Help with loud thump...

I have a Clarion NX501 head unit, Kicker ZX300.1 mono amp and two Kicker CVT 8" subs under the back seat. When I shut off the truck or the radio I get a loud thump from the subs as the remote line in senses the loss of power. I've never had this issue with any of my previous systems. Any suggestions?

I would check grounds make sure they are good. Could be bad RCAs? Make sure they are not ran on the sameside as the power wire as i guess they will cause interferance issues. A buddys v dub does the same thing but he has a line out convertor on his stock stereo and they say that has a lot to do with it

I'll check the ground again. The RCAs are run along the passenger side with the remote line in and the power is run along the driver side so that shouldn't be a factor. Any other ideas? Could it be an amp issue?

both my Kicker amps did that. One was a KX700.5 and the other is a ZX700.5

The amp could be a cause... but it seems unlikely unless you have other issues. With a surge, you'd have channel interference or intermittent outages regardless of power up. It's typically a ground issue. I'd start at the ground and make sure there isn't a washer (remove it if so), loose connection or body panel removing the wire sheath to create contact.

If the surge is only from the subs, stay with the linework for the the ZX300. Before tearing through your wiring though, be sure you've disconnect the amp and cycle the power to ensure that you're not getting a surge from the other drivers. That will confirm, if you have not done it already, the source.

Mine did the same thing... Trying to chase it down I ended up changing the power cables and RCA's.. No luck.. Your power is a constant 12V source.. However, the power on wire should be somewhere at 3v.. That's where I found my thump problem.. To much voltage there will give you the surge during power on and off..

How can I reduce the voltage from that line if it is coming from the head unit? Use a smaller gauge wire? I ended up using speaker wire for my remote line since the line that came with my amp install kit was bad.
