2012 upgrade/questions
Just picked up a 2012 Lariat Screw 5.0 a few weeks ago. Have the sync system with no Nav screen. I noticed the front passenger side speaker has some kind of issue going on yesterday (crackles and static). Spent the better part of today searching the forums (slow work week) for speaker ideas. My plan at first was to throw some coaxials up front and call it a day. Then I started wondering if that would kind of hurt/interfere the tweeters that are already in the A pillar. So I started looking at some component speakers to through in there and replace the stock tweeters with the new speakers. I would have to mount a crossover somewhere, preferably easy to get to.
I just plan on keeping the stock HU, upgrade the rear coaxials at some point too, and call it quits. No amp or sub.
My question is, with keeping it basically stock and powering them off the stock HU should I just go with a decent set of coaxials and call it a day or get the componets and upgrade the tweeters as well? With the componets and the crossovers, how hard is the install with the molex connections and where do you put the crossover?
Thanks for any help

Components are better than coaxial. Some say that they need to be amped to sound the best.
The crossover would be installed inside a door cavity and you could use the factory wiring into the crossover and then new wire from the crossover to the tweeter and door speaker. No need to mess with the molex.
I use a 2 way in the door with the factory tweeter off the HU power and have no bad effects.

Thanks for the info Wyo. Maybe ill pull the panel and take a look for any water. Funny thing is it was pretty dry for a few days when I noticed it but it has been raining for a few days now and I haven't noticed it.

Thanks raduque. Ill leaning towards the coaxials since they will be a little easier install and a little easier on the pocket considering i will be keeping it pretty much stock other than the speakers

If you arent planning on an amp, coaxials are probably enough. I would put the coaxials in and see how it sounds with the factory tweeter. If its too bright, just unhook the tweeter in the pillar. I feel like the mid in the door is the weakest link in the stock setup. The pillar tweeter isnt awful. In fact, its probably better than the tweeter in most coaxials
