F150 Sound System
I was looking at my truck the other day and have decided its time she got a sound upgrade. Now, its and Ext. Cab and the back seat is pretty much useless for me. And i was thinking of removing it and putting in a custom built box with at least 2 12'' Competition subs.
But i was curious if anyone here has added speakers and such to their truck. If you have lets hear what you have done to it. |
TxOutlaw seems to know everything realated to audio... so he'll help once he logs on
|
i put some infinity speakers in the front doors if that does anything for you, lol
it would be easy to put some subs in ther, but have you ever consitered lifting the back seat a few inches, so you would be able to use it if you needed it, and then you would have plenty of space for a nice setup. |

Actually that is the way its supposed to work. But with lifting the rear seat i am told that it would only hold 1 or 2 10'' subs. I want at least 12''s |
I have seen a box with 2 downfire 12's in it, I will try to see if I can find it.
|
ive also pondered doing the same to my truck but i use the backseat to much and i think that might be to big of a box and might look corney but if you get it done post some pics.
|
I rarely use my backseat. And if i can pull off some of the creativity that i am wanting to then I will surly post pics.
|
i put door spkrs in all the doors there nothing to expensive but there pioneer 3ways in the back and 4ways in the front and im about to buy some components and put them in the front in that little whole thingy. i also got a new head unit i thought about a system but i use my back seats
|
I installed a Pioneer head unit with ipod adapter, and the following amp, box, and sub http://cgi.ebay.com/04-06-Ford-F150-...QQcmdZViewItem
It is not over powering and won't blow your windows out, but I have been told by others that it sounds like being at a concert when I crank it up. I love it! |
Basically i plan to pull the back seat out and have a box built that will completly fill in the back. It will accomedate 3 12'' or 2 15'' subs and whatever else i need to make it sounds right. I also plan to upgrade the door speakers. I have not decided yet. I got estimates on the box and it will cost about 400-450 not counting the actual equipment.
|
That is rather expensive, dont you think you could do it yourself or know someone who could help you out.

Well, when i was talking to the guy about it he just spit off a number. He said materials are rather in expensive but the labor is what costs. I have never built a speaker box of this magnitude. It will be a bit at at time. Plus i plan to get other estimates on what i want. |
definatally, that is why I said try it you yourself because if you mess up you are not out to much money if it dosent work out.
|
you could definately build a nice box for what you want for less then 100 bucks for materials easy. and thats covering it also. plus u would have ur labor, but who cares about that, its always fun to do these kind of things.

Yeah, you are probably right. I will have to look into this a bit further. |

I reckon it depends on the box and how much space each sub gets. |
what are the subs in?
and what kind of subs/amps/box? |
subs are MA audio, but that is all i know other than who hooked it up
|
I Got All Kicker Speakers In Mine... 2 10" Subs Under The Rear Seat... It Sounds Good...
|
if you want to bring out the highs definately put some infinity kappa speakers in there, and a custom box wouldnt be too hard for that truck, whats your budget? i can help you piece together a pretty insane system, just shoot me an email and i can help you with any questions you may have, abervintageman42@yahoo.com

Audio Question
I have a KR SCREW with factory system, subwoofer, iPod jack all standard in the KR. How does this system stackup against aftermarket setups without going off the deep end.
I think the system is the best sounding that I've ever owned, great bass, clear clean sound with lots of volume. No rap mostly R&B Jazz, rock and Country. If there is something that will make a diff and makes sense, I love hear about it...............TKS...........WPPF150 |
In my single cab I took out the seats and replaced them with Corbeau racing seats. I am currently building a center console that will house 2 12" MB Quart Subs and I have MB Quart QSD seperates in the doors.
As far as your extended cab you could but a JL Audio Stealth Box under the back seat and you should be pretty happy and you wouldn't have to lose you back seat. If you really dont care about the backseat then I would go with a custom enclosure with either JL Audio or MB Quart Subs.. |
I'm actually looking to upgrade my speakers also and possibly add a few subs. I can't wait to tear this beast apart and start replacing the speakers. I've just gotta find the right speakers that I want from Crutchfield and then I'll start.
|
onlinecarstereo.com has great prices. you can buy some stuff at below dealer cost, and they carry a lot more stuff than crutchfield. JL audio makes a great set of mids and highs if you want a better sound you could spend a little more money and go with MB Quart, Kicker also makes good sounding mids and highs
|
if you could put 2 15" alpine type r's with some nice speakers that would sound awsome and hit hard as well
|
subs in extended cab
You can get a custom box to fit under the seat in the back and not loose anything. I just got my truck and I can get the 2 10s I had in under the back seat for 200 bucks. All you have to do is move your jack. You can get a box for 2 12's too but you got to make sure you have enough airspace for them. It just all depends if you want to shake the car next to you or not. I mean 2 good 10's will get it thumping real good.
|
O just have a custome center console built like me.....
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...ad.php?t=25515 $300 shipped gets you a great custom piece....and you avoid thieves.

i would recommend kicker 12" l7's... these will be plenty loud with the right amp... you will definately want to do some upgrading to your door speakers if you do this though otherwise all you will hear is your bass...
I install systems around where i live, and i recently put 2 kicker 15" l7's in a 01 dodge ext cab... I dont remember the amp, but i put in infinity reference component door speakers in the front, pioneer 3 ways in the back, and 4 tweeters in it, and when the bass was turned up, there still wasn't enough of the highs... he is selling the 15's and buying 12's |
check out this company called hertz a lil expensive but worth every penny mabey a lil hard to find
|
hey
sounds like 2 12s would sound great with the right amp in it
and eastsideperformance i have a 93 f150 that im gonna do somethin similar to but im gonna try to get 2 10" piledrivers with massive magnets on them for the boxes but i dont have an amp that works right now so :glare: its kinda hard but i do plan on building a total rockford system by the time im done |
i got a pretty good sound system i guess. i have a Flip out pioneer DVD5900 deck, 1 Alpine TYPE-X 3OOOW sub hooked up to a kicker 15OOW amp, 4 infinite 6x8's in the doors and 4 infinite 6x9's kappa series in speaker boxes powered by 2 kicker 4-Channel 75OW amps cost a fortune but its the best for tailgating i also got to keep my back seats in i can just move my speaks when i want

Take a look at his outfit I don't know anything about them but their price seem to be reasonable.

My recomendation
I bought my 07 SCREW in November and since Christmas have gone through many different components in the system. What I ended up with in my opinion is an extream sounding system!
Here it is: Eclipse AVN6620 - DVD NAV System Eclipse Ipod interface Eclipse Sirius interface Eclipse/Parrot Bluetooth interface Eclipse HD radio interface Rockford Fosgate P4004 powering two sets of JL Audio Components VR650CSi Rockford Fosgate Punch 300-1 powering a JL Audio 8W3V34 8" sub in the factory sub box Steering wheel interface control Rockford Fosgate 1 farad capacitor. Don't bother looking up prices I'll just tell you now - $3300 including all accessories I needed to install. Pricey but worth every penny. I previously had an Alpine deck with the P4004 powering Eclipse 5x7's in the doors and a RF M200 powering a RF 12" sub in my 99 F150 and this set blows it away, especially the clarity. Good Luck |
i was hoping somebody could help me, i have a 06 extended cab and i'd like to keep my back seats but i also want a loud system. i mean really really LOUD. i've been into systems for awhile but always had cars so i never ran into a problem with airspace. i'd like to put two 12in kicker l7s. i was thinking of tearing out the back bench seats and throwing a pair of buckets in the back and fabing a center counsel in the back seat. probably with a nice angle to it for show and throwing some black vinyl on it. has anyone seen this? could somebody help me out? i don't even know what two l7s would need for airspace. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!
|
how are you with box building? do you have to tools to get creative, you could do a single level 4 15" in a armrest type box off a nice good 1000 watt amp :)
|
i have two 10" in a sealed box under my back seat, but i have seen a ported box too, just beware of the port whistle i cabs.
|
www.supercrewsound.com they make a box for 2 12" under the back seat, but plan on at least lifting it 3" for any 12" setup!!
|
I have upgraded my deck and door speakers and the factory sub but I'm not happy with the sub and am curently looking for a better set up. I have a nice pioneer deck, JBL components in the front, and JBL 2way in the back. The sub is a JL audio W1 series 12" in a small slim box that I'm just able to squezz under the rear seat. It doesnt' sound bad but the base is just not loud enough to keep up with the rest of the system. I have looked at about everything there is for a f150 and the best thing I have seen is the JL stealthboxes they make custom. They are expensive but it seems like they are the best option for me anyways. If you get a custom box for under the seat you will have to get a riser set up if you want 12's other wise you can get 10's and just remove the jack. You can only fit shallow mount subs in most of these boxes as well which don't sound as good as regular subs. The stealthboxes are $750 for the f150 and it comes with a w3 series 10" loaded in the ported fiberglass box. Add the amp and your looking at a grand or so. Imo anything more than 12's is overkill unless you are doing competitions. If and when I upgrade my sub I will post a review and let you know how it sounds.
