F150 BIG stereo system owners
#71
Things have slowed down a bit but I am still working behind the scenes to get this build underway. My former Subthump box is out of the truck, the protective Subthump speaker shroud is at the powder coater, awaiting some fresh powder coating. When I get it back, I'll be taking it to UPS / Fedex and shipping that box out to its new owner. I have to take my truck to a local Ford dealership on Tuesday for some work and I believe Wednesday or Thursday, I will make the 100 mile trip to Sanger, Texas, to be measured for my new roll bar support system for my subwoofer speaker boxers.
Everything in the rear of the cab of my truck has been removed for the upcoming measurements. I am still looking for a local fiberglass person who is interested in fabricating me a quad speaker bar that holds either (4) 5.25" or (4) 6.5" mids for my headliner. I've had two offers on my Polk Audio PA1100.5 amplifier but no one has committed. Now that the ball is rolling on this project, the first one with $260 can have that beast of an amp!
As usual, I'll be sure to keep everyone upated with pictures and any developing news!

I'm pretty sure there is a typo on Polk's page and in their advertising, because 25mm is the total mechanical throw of the driver (xmech), with xmax being about half of that according to the T/S specs. But hell 6 15"s is still going to shake your brains and be ridiculously loud. Cool build.

Hope that helps with any confusion..
Thanks mSaLL150 for the nod of approval.. I appreciate the encouragement!

Ran into another small set-back today. The Ford Dealership called and said they removed my "old" rear window seal and replaced it today. My truck is going to sit overnight at the dealership and should be ready by mid-day tomorrow. The headliner has some water stains on it from the leaky 3rd brake light assy / rear window seal. They are going to remove the headliner and clean it. However, at my request, they are going to leave it out. I told them I would reinstall it myself. While it's out, I am going to dynomat my roof! the floor is done, the rear bulkhead wall is done. Once the roof is done, all I will need to do is the doors. BTW, when I go to the roll bar place.. I am thinking of asking them to fabricate a bar that goes behind my (2) front seats.
I own a restored 1995 Trans Am. 415 HP on the motor and a 200 shot wet nitrous kit. Pretty decent for a LT1 GM engine car. Well, I have a roll bar in that car. I dynomatted the entire car but I have NO stereo system. I do have (4) Polk Audio MM651's mounted in WAKEBOARD speaker pods. All of it has been powder coated to match. The speakers are RIGHT BEHIND the drivers and passenger seats. The mids / tweets REALLY scream!!!! I am thinking of a similar setup with my F150. It's something that you don't see everyday and I really enjoy being different with my OWN ideas. Whadda ya think?
My car:
(4) Mids / highs DIRECTLY behind your ears are going to SCREAM! I am thinking this idea is NOT such a bad idea because of the overwhelming amount of bass that I am going to have with (2) 10's and (6) 15's. Those PODS aren't cheap either. They cost me $219 (plus shipping) for a set. I can only imagine the roll bar is going to cost roughly $600 - $700 bux or so. The one thing I enjoy about this setup is its orginality. Imagine the roll bar / speaker pods powder coated wrinkle black to match my F150 interior! This truck should rock hard!

I have to admit I love seeing what you guys have done and are doing. I just recently installed two JL 10's W3's under the back seat of mine. And that's plenty for me. Subscribing just to see what you come up with next.

1. Polk Audio 1200w / Model PA D1000.1
2. Polk Audio 1200w / Model PA D1000.1
3. Polk Audio 900w / Model PA D5000.5
I might consider another PA D5000.5 in the future but it's not in the plans at the moment. So, at roughly 3300 watts, my setup isn't really "high powered". Since I've done my big 3, upgraded my alternator with a Mechman 270 amp unit and have a brand new Megatron 65 series battery, I am left wondering if I should add another battery (or two) to my system. Everything else, I am spot on and on track. I removed my headliner today and will be "dynomatting" everything soon (of course, I will be taking before and after pics)!
I realize it's NOT a high powered setup and my focus isn't so much on SPL, but on the flip side, I realize that it's a larger than "normal" system (especially for a F-150) cab only build. I've been asked a few times and just want to point out that I am NOT entering this vehicle as a competition vehicle. I am NOT being sponsored. I am NOT purely focused on HUGE SPL numbers and I am NOT trying to win any awards.
At the end of the day, I am just an audio enthusiast in my 40's who enjoys a nice stereo system.. LOL!
