Default Sound system for 04' F-150 (Screw)

I am in the process of gathering all of the components to my sound system, but had a few questions first.
  1. My first question is what size speakers are in the front, and rear doors?
  2. What are your thoughts on Kicker door speakers?
  3. What about Kicker low-profile subwoofers (12")?
  4. Are Kicker amps any good?
  5. Best place to get a box for the rear sits in a Screw, that will be able to house two 12" subs?
  6. Kicker amp vs. Alpine amp.
  7. Kicker subwoofer vs. Sony Xplod subwoofer.
  8. Suggestions on placement of the amp?

Sorry for the long list of questions, but if you can give me any info on any of them it would be appreciated. BTW, my plan is to replace all door speakers, house two 12" subs under the rear seat in the back, and also customize the box to be able to hold the amp on top of it. Currently I have an Alpine deck, and my last sound system had pioneer door speakers, Alpine amps, and Sony Xplod subwoofers. I love the Sony Xplod subwoofers, but I haven't looked into the shallow mount subs, and if they if make them for Sony Xplod. The door speakers I don't care about too much, although I did already buy a set of Kicker speakers, and like the sound of them while they were in Bestbuy. Oh, and I would like to get another Alpine amp, but if the Kicker one is good then I might get it to match the setup, same goes with subs. Comments, concerns, questions? Thanks in advance.

6x8" coaxials. These have the tweeter built into the woofer. If you want above avg. sound quality, components(tweeter and woofer sepearate) is the way to go. I can see you like to mod, so making some adapters for a 6.5" mid-driver wouldn't be an issue. Most 5x7's can also fit the 6x8 cut out as well, and sometimes come with adapters.
  2. What are your thoughts on Kicker door speakers?
Much better than factory, and for the price, they are a bargain. (depends on the type of kickers)
  3. What about Kicker low-profile subwoofers (12")?
Kicker makes great subs for average SQ and SPL. The low pros wont give you the deep and throaty bass as a full size driver, but you will definately tell a difference with one of these. Any sub in a system can make it sound 10XXX better.
  4. Are Kicker amps any good?
Kicker amps are again, mid-grade, and very well priced for the quality.
  5. Best place to get a box for the rear sits in a Screw, that will be able to house two 12" subs?
Check on google, if not hit me up. I build boxes and isntall audio in my spare time, so It shouldnt be an issue getting you a box.
  6. Kicker amp vs. Alpine amp.
I prefer alpine over kicker. However, I prefer Rockford over both of them. But all 3 are reliable, fairly rated, and put out true power.
  7. Kicker subwoofer vs. Sony Xplod subwoofer.
    Kicker by far.
  8. Suggestions on placement of the amp?
Behind the rear seat on an amp board, or under the front seats.

If the funds are available, the full size Kicker CVT's and Alpine R's are great choices. Also, the type R shallow mounts are great for saving space, but are super pricey. I have two type R 10 full size drivers under my rear seats. It is really to much bass for a supercab.

As for an amp, once you decide the subs that would be alot easier.

I thought you already had your system done a while back?? What kinda sound you looking for?? I'm a kicker fan.. My uncle won plenty of competitions in south Georgia with them and so did I.. However, I could not find anyone who could put a kicker competition or solo baric under my seats... If I couldn't do a full kicker system I wasn't gonna mis match.. I went with JL components in the doors for clarity.. I refuse to put shallow subs in my truck... Went with RE Audio 10's and RE amps..... I have the FOX ACOUSTIC box... Don't remember if they have one for 12's...

You can't go wrong with kicker but there are better options in complete systems like MB Quart, JL Audio, and a few others.. I went full size because I hate pulling up to red lights listening to music from some else's car... Kicker amps are pretty nice.. Don't know if you viewed my photos a while back.. I've had the KX series and the ZX.. Plenty of power.... SONY XPLOD?? You joking right?

Don't forget to check out crutch field, input your truck, and see all the extras they recommend for your desired setup, write down some part numbers and let the best price hunt begin.

Or, if you are like some people I work with, place the whole order on crutch field, because they give all the harnesses and adapters for free, and they have the lowest price available on the other parts. Actually had a co-worker tell me that nobody can beat crutch field prices.

But, they do make a good guideline for part#s and manufacturers of those parts.

+1... Crutch field provides a lot of information on what's best

I've been investigating what's optimal for my screw as well... I've come to the conclusion "thus far" that a fox box single or double 10 box, with a JL audio w3v3 4 ohm sub is perfect... Price to performance wise 2 JL 10s or a single JL 10 with 1000 watt amp and higher should rattle your ride quite well..... I had 1 JL w3v3 4ohm in my screw at the local audio shop and it was amazing!!! And my puny 450 watt thump! Amp powered it well... I hear 12s will not perform as great as 10s in our downfire boxes, because the excursion is too much on a 12 for the clearance between box and seat....

When you say full size do you me not shallow (subwoofers)? Can either of those two be found at Bestbuy (or Bestbuy online)? Bestbuy is my budget, because I have some store credit to use. Although, I know I will have to buy a box some place else, because Bestbuy stopped selling their boxs that were specially made for certain cars/trucks.

Yeah, I checked out your sound system (). Wasn't it like four subs? Anyways, what's wrong with Sony Xplod? I don't know how their door speakers are, but I had two 12"s and one 10" (the 12"s were deep, and the 10" was shallow) in the old truck I drove and they were the greatest subwoofers I've heard. Not to mention I bought them from Wal-mart for only $100, for the two 12"s. I understand not mixing the speakers, and that's why this time I was thinking about Kicker subs, except I think their overplayed were I come from, but if their actually good then I'll get them. Oh, and JL is a no for me, because they are overplayed down here, more so than Kicker. I respect JL, but their prices are over the top too. Yes/No on Kicker shallow subs?

PS: You might of thought I had a sound system, because of the deck I got, maybe? That was last May (2011).

Okay sweet. I've heard of them a few times, but never have really visted them. I'll make sure to keep them in mind, and maybe make that visit.

PS: The last sound system I had, my firend and I bought all of the wiring from Wal-mart, which was for the remote switch, subwoofers, and a capacitor. It was cheap, but work well. I actually have some wiring for the subwoofers still un-opened, so I might be using this as well.

So two 12"s not a good idea then? I just had two 12"s in the prevous system, and figured that was the way to go. I know that the performance of the speakers in a small area is crucial, but that's why I was looking for shallow subwoofers.

Sorry for the triple post, but I just relized I didn't cmpletey read one of your guys' posts. The guy at Bestbuy told me 6x8 for both front and back, but I had concerns, because I remeber taking off my front door panel, and seeing round speaker slots which I thought were only the round 5" or 6". I actually already bought the door speakers, but I can easliy return them without a problem. I'll attempt to post a picture of the speakers I got.

PS: First two pictures are of the 6x8 speakers then the third and forth pictures are of the other size.

For 2(12)'s ... I think you'd have to do shallows... I agree on the JL's and Kicker... Everybody has them... Not many people have ever heard of Sundown, RE Audio, and DC Audio... They all make some killer 10's... As mentioned early... The FOX box allows for a full size sub to be mounted... I think it's like 6.5inches...(i think).. My subs are 5.5inches.. Airspace is right within specs as per RE Audio website...

You've got a lot of money invested into your truck.... That's why I thought you were playing around with the Sony Xplod thing... But you were serious.... I never owned a shallow.. Only heard them in other peoples vehicles...My OEM sub was a close run with them...
