amp box????
hey guys i am about to get an entirely new system in my truck but the part i need to explain is the 2 12s im putting in the back. my question is about the box. i am just trying to see if anyone has any good input to help me decide.
i have a 2007 f150xl (so you know what i'm workin with)
i have to options for building the box
1. fiberglass
2. make it out of lexan or plexi-glass (i would melt the edges together instead of using screws so it would look clean)
really either option is totally possible. money is no issue because i can just save longer if i need to. im really trying to find out if one way would be better than the other or anything like that. i know the lexan/plexi would have to be pretty thick (im putting in mtx 7500s) and i have a certain layout i want for the box. ill post it below
hope you guys think its as cool as i do lol
red = subs
blue = amp
i think i could make a BA box out of either of the materials so let me know what you think!!!!

For the best sound from a subwoofer case you need to build of either 3/4 inch plywood or a dense fine grained pressed wood product. It is a matter of how the box resonates and wood makes for a much smoother sound. One of the best materials to use is a type of plywood used to build forms for concrete, "Plastic-coated form panels". It is totally water proof, and even wet concrete has little affect on it, it is very dense and heavy. It makes fantastic speaker enclosures. the smooth plastic coating gives you a smooth surface to cover with what ever you want, leather is one of the best looking.

i know its not really the "traditional" things to build a box out of. that makes me lean towards building the box and then just building a fiberglass "case". i just really want to have a cool box lol.

I know what you mean. A plastic box such as you describe would be really cool. Make sure you use at least 1/2 inch on the outside panels. For the assembly use the adhesives that are used to assemble aquariums they are super strong and dry all but transparent. On the inside I would mount colored florescent tubes of the type used to illuminate the insides of computer cases. They also have wiring that has insulation that florescences under black light. they make colored bubble lights that have alcohol in them which is heated by the bulb that illuminates the tube and it has a continuous stream of bubbles just like an old juke box. You friends would get down on the ground and...........

coo... well good luck with that... let me know how the box goes if you do the lexan or plexi glass... that sounds pretty cool, i install systems for people, and i would like to know how to do that.

well it seems the more people i talk to the more people that don't think its a good idea. everyone seems to just tell me wood is better and easier lol. i want some asthetics though!

ic... well you might try a little combination of the plexiglass and wood with lights... ive done it before, it ended up looking pretty awesome, but was a pain to get everything inside the box to look good.
I am tryin to track down the chick that bought it from the guy i built it for to see if i can get some pics...
it was similar to the shape you drew, but only the amp was in the middle, and the subs were downfiring. the angled down sides that went towards the amp were plexiglass, and the amp sat on plexiglass. in front of and behind the amp were open, but above it i put another peice of plexiglass with reinforcement b/c he threw stuff ontop of the box all of the time, and even let people sit back there so that peice on top kind of protected the amp and prevented any pressure that might cause air leaks on where the amp was sitting on.
the rest was wood, and all of it was put together with screws. however, i wasnt as good at building boxes then as i am now, and didnt have a table saw, which gave me some trouble with making everything look and sound perfect. It took some patience

So is a table saw the key to building boxes?
I want to try to build a box this summer that woudl let me run maby 2 8's and still let my back seats fold flat. I have seen premade boxes for my truck, but you can no longer fold the seats flat, which is something I do often.
