Common Rattles

did you mean CLD, MLV and CCF when you referred to 3 layers? hopefully so and not 3 layers of the CLD.
for those who will be reading this the CLD only needs ~25% coverage on large flat panels. the CCF and MLV need 100% coverage with all seams taped for the most effectiveness.

and yes you are absolutely right about only needing 25% coverage of the CLD to be effective..anything over this is overkill and your return on investment goes way down if putting more then 25% coverage
you can either tape the MLV, I ended up using vinyl cement glue to seal the floor and ceiling MLV together

my last post kind of got lost in all the pictures, so I am going to re-post it:
Wow! you guys did a really nice job with the sound deadening. I will have to start doing some of that a little at a time. I am not really getting much from the doors, and surprisingly, the truck from the factory does a really good job with keeping the sound in. I can stand outside the truck with everything closed and at the Max volume I have it tuned for, and it really isn't all that loud outside.
I guess I should have been more specific with the rattles that I have. Its not so much any of the body panels that are rattling. The roof has a reverberation at some frequencies that I know dynamat will fix. The bigger problem I have is the extremities as in little plastic panels that are rattling inside. I think the rattle in my roof is not from the roof itself, but instead maybe some wiring ran up there, or possibly the sun glass holder or one of the visors. I also have a small rattle somewhere in the dash that has been tough to locate.
My main goal was to start a thread where people can say "I found this metal bracket that was rubbing against another piece of metal on the back firewall... wrapped it with some foam and now it doesn't rub or rattle" kind of thing.

Hey Kepel...most rattels can be cured by either adding more mass to the offending panel or part..this is where the CLD layer helps. Dynamat is just a particular brand. i perfer Dynamat extreme just for the fact that when applied.it STICKS never have to worry about it coming off...Dynamat's Original stuff was horrible for that. another solution is to put some foam in between the offending parts like a CCF (closed cell foam)
Also...you'd be shocked at how sealing up the doors can dramatically improve the speaker performance....and yes even the stock speakers.
I think most ppl get rattles in completely difrent spots based on who took their truck/car apart..how many times, and if they even used all the screws to put it back together or all the clips correctly. I personally just find the offending area of noise...and start adding some foam or dynamat.
And yes if doing the whole truck its better to do it in waves. my roof and floor took me 2 1/2 days, then each door was done on its own day ( about 4 hrs per door) OCD def helps here

My 18 rattles when I have the back glass open all the way with the sunroof. I’m pretty sure it’s the back glass and probably nothing to do with the sunroof. I just have both open when I hear it. I plan for some sound changes so that spot already has me worried because it rattles just driving. Not bad but can hear it for sure.
Anyone do anything to the back sliding glass? Guess it could change by just adding material to the panels below and above it?
