Take a look at the new Dayton Audio DSP 408. For $150, you get 10 bands of PEQ per channel, high and low shelf filters, fully adjustable crossovers 6-24db, and time alignment. It is cheaper than a stand alone active crossover.

You can forscan your truck and the 408 will give you 8 RCA output channels. You can download the software for free to see all the settings and what it can do.

There is a thread about it over on DIYaudio.

That is a cool dsp. I have been following it since it's release. Lots of positive feedback on the diy mobile audio forum!

JL Audio also makes amps with built-in DSP FYI. Perhaps check them out when making a final decision. They aren't cheap but good stuff never is.

If I run one of those Amps with the built in dsp, do I still need to do forscan?

Using forscan to flatten the signal is always the preferred method but, if you are against modifying your vehicles settings, the AudioControl units have both input and output rta's which allow for auto eq. You basically play a provided tone through the system and tell the dsp to auto eq. It will flatten the factory frequency curve and give you a flat signal to then tweak via the output side of the dsp.

I have forscan and used it on my 15, so I don't mind using it on my 18. Just wanted to make sure I could do both to benefit the sound.

Yes, you absolutely can do both. The dsp is required for a true SQ listening experience! You will absolutely hear the difference between good and great!

does it just auto eq or auto-tune as well? big difference. when the jbl ms-8 came out it was the first auto-tuner and while it could produce some amazing results it typically required many, many attempts at running the auto-tune portion to get it right. people experimented and found all sorts of tips and tricks for the process but it was still a crap shoot. i installed one i still have in my truck and ran it 10 times without success (i know how good it can be) and got frustrated. i ended up buying a new helix dsp.2 and doing it myself.

Let me clarify. This dsp has input and output RTA's. The input RTA is designed to flatten the dynamic eq curve that most manufactures incorporate into their factory systems. AudioControl has been know for their ability to flatten those signals. The "auto eq" has no effect on the output rta. It's simply gives the output side of the dsp a flat signal to then tune and adjust. There is no microphone, the auto eq is done internally. To tune the output side, you need a good mic and rta app on your phone or laptop.
