4 8"s should sound loud as heck. Do you have photos? I'd love to see them. Which model did you get?

They aren’t as loud as I thought they would be, but the boxes are a little undersized. I built 2 underseat, downfiring boxes (2 in each) because I remove them a lot for my dogs.

Im going to try building a slightly larger single box for them and not make separate chambers. We will see. I saw a photo of 3 with a slot port that I would like to try.

They are the IX-8 subs in a sealed enclosure. They sound pretty nice and you can fee them quite a bit, they just don’t move air like my old ported setups did.

I’ll try to get some photos for you.

Ever think about trying the MA-8s? you could put around 4-500 watts to them each. In a ported box they would be wicked.

I agree, I think they would knock in a ported box. When I put this system in, I wanted downfiring under the back seats so depth was a huge concern.

I’ll see if the MA-8’s can fit forward firing and may try to put 3 of those in a ported box. I want to upgrade my amp so I’m curious to see your review of the Skar amp. My amp is a really old Power Acoustik that puts down around 600 clean. So would need larger for the new subs.

I've been running the amps pretty hard since my truck is my daily driver. I haven't had any issues so far. My friends and their neighbors hate when I come around lol. My buddy is also using their mini 500-watt amp and he hasn't had any issues either. They do get warm but haven't shut off yet. I think it helps that I have them mounted low on a shelf so they get plenty of air. I'll post photos soon.

I understand that there are a ton of options when it comes to speakers and I've tried a few setups already. These cheap Pioneers are amazing with this combo. It's hard to imagine until you hear them. The amps that I'm using are great so far so no need to upgrade. I recently came back from a Vegas drive that took 4 1/2 each way. The amps held up without any issues. I have a personal feeling about buying used items and that's simply I don't like to do so. Of course, people can deviate and get stuff from past builds for free or get super cheap used parts. My purpose of this post was to show people how to build a budget system with stuff they can easily find readily available online for super cheap.

Regarding the box/sub, I'm testing out various boxes, designs, and subs to compare them for a future post update. I've already tested the Pioneer 10" shallow in the premade box which I posted on a couple weeks ago. I plan on comparing that to the Skar 12" shallow in a ported box soon. I also have my shop ported box that I test with a 10W7 in it. I like to use the shop W7 as a starting base to compare how far off other sub combos are from it. The goal is to compare one of the best subs in a perfectly sized/ported or sealed box to other sub combos. Once my tests are complete, I'll determine if a sealed vs ported box is better for the Skar sub, I'll share the box plans with the group so they know the exact cutouts measurements so people can build their own box. I might make this box available for purchase if people do not have the tools/experience to build one themselves.

I'm really trying to stick with the budget build topic using new parts. I'm always open to reading reviews on products that work for this particular application. I do think it's best to compare from a variety of speakers instead of only sharing info about the one particular speaker used in the truck. Perhaps I should do a write up on those $700 Hertz's speakers vs Kickers vs Polk Audios vs Pioneers as well. So far those are all that I tested on this truck side by side. Please keep the info coming though I love the feedback.
Do you have a picture of the box you are using for the 10W7? I'm in the process of trying to figure out the best sub options for my Super Crew. I want to go JL...and i'd like to go with 2 10"...probably the w3 because of cost. I do not want the box to stick out beyond the seat.

I'm in socal...would love to hear your setup.

The 10W7 won't fit, too deep to put in down firing. 10W3 won't fit either. If you are looking at JL, the 10W1v3 will just barely fit (need to build a "bump" out for the magnet) and there is enough volume for two tens. All the shallow versions will work, TW1, TW3, TW5.

Look at what this company has done for some inspiration for sub boxes. I am not a fan of the "faceplates" but I like the vinyl work and faux stitching.

For certain the 10W7 won't fit under the seats. My test ported box is huge and is in front of the seat. I'm using this temporarily until I have time to fit my other test subs in an enclosure under the seats. Just finding it hard to make time with a couple customer builds underway.
