Best speakers
It's been a while since I've been big into car audio. I've ran a little of everything over the years but it seams things have changed. What are considered top line components now? I've ran Polk Audio, Pioneer, Kenwood, jl audio, and kicker in the past. I used to run 300 watt + door speakers but don't really see those out there. Is technology better to the point a 100 watt speaker is as good as my old 300 watt ones? I'm thinking of the jl audio shallow mount subs so I may stick to jl audio. But I'm open to all suggestions.

If you can find a place, take a listen to focal, illusion, audiofrog and hybrid audio. I'm running a full hybrid build in my new truck, but I also love focal and illusion makes about the best slim sub on the market with their inverted motor design.

dynaudio hands down imho. all of my vehicles have dyn components running active, including the f150 (md102, mw162).
i haven't personally heard them but have read where the audiofrog stuff is pretty damn nice too.

i'd have to say that pioneer is the best sub on the market to run in your truck, i had two pioneer 12 champs hooked up to a 1000 watt amp in the back of an 97 ext cab ranger, and they shattered the back glass lol, good lord they would slam.

i'd hardly call that grounds to label them the best subs to use.

I've blown out windshields. 2 18's, 2 12's, 4 10's and 4 8's in a Regular Cab Toyota pickup with a walkthrough into the box. 24 total speakers. SPL doesn't equal quality. But it is fun..... I'm now looking for good clean sound.

Musical tastes are subjective, but I just put a set of Focal 165 KR component speakers in my front doors and a pillars.

They replaced noisy Infinity Kappa 6x9 coaxials. Granted, they were handled more power being 2 ohm speakers, but they also passed more background noise.
Night and day difference between the two.
Clean, clean, clean sound with no static coming through during the quiet passages while keeping the same crisp highs that Infinity is known for.
I also added a more inexpensive set of Focal coaxials in the rear doors.
Space limits the size of your subwoofer in these trucks. That is, unless you don't mind loosing rear floor space, which I'm not giving up.
I have a small Rockford Fosgate sealed sub powered by a JL Audio mono amp. I've probably going to keep the enclosure but replaced the woofer, itself. The problem is finding something that will work in a <.4 cu foot space while still allowing the rear seat to fully latch in the upright position.
