any budget? as broad as this answer might be, its gonna be what you like. everyone likes things to sound a certain way. i personally like a soft dome tweeter on any speakers i have ever owned, but there are alot of people that want a really bright tweeter. so its kinda hard to say whats the best for your money. i would go to a local shop and listen to as many as you can. also remember that 6 1/2 can fit in the openings with adapter depending on what year model you have.
with all that said, i personally like Pioneer Revs... I think they are called Pioneer PRS now. JL makes great speakers. alot depends on your budget too. hope this helps some and not just me rambling lol

I just changed all mine out for Infinity 6822 6x8 speakers. Got all four off Ebay for $65 shipped. Sounds alot better than the cheap factory paper speakers. Any good name brand and you should be good though!

Did you add an amplifier, or just swap the speakers? Also, stock head unit? I've been wonder how the power to new speakers would be without getting into HU and amplifier mods.

I installed Polks and powered with HU w/o an amp. Sounds much better. Not as muddled. I might install an amp later. I keep going back and forth.

I went with the Polk Audio DB571 they sounded great with the stock head unit. but then I added an amp and sub. They sound even better now... but that just might be that I have real volume now...

I installed the same speakers and with just the HU I think they sound great. I go back and forth on whether to install an amp or not. Was the sound better in clarity or was it just more power? Would you recommend an amp?

well I was not happy with the max volume with the stock power so I added a Kenwood KAC-8405 amp. and a single 12" sony sub, (ya only need one sub), that amp is a high level input so you can still use the factory head unit.

Sound is clear and crisp and I can turn up the volume higher when something moves me.

I am looking to change the speakers in my 2011 Fx4 when it gets here. Can you add an amp to the factory HU? then run a sub? I don't want to change up the dash, so in other words I want to keep the factory HU.

I have always gone with Pioneer speakers. Always been a big fan and they always sounded good IMO. I had a 10" Memphis sub in my last truck and it sounded great.
