Anybody else preorder the Alpine INE-Z928HD?
#31
Got all my stuff installed, just have to finish running a couple of wires and put the drivers side back together. But i couldnt be more pleased with the sound. The quality/clarity is amazing. Ive posted this before, but here was my laundry list:
Alpine INE-Z928H
Polk MM6501 components for the front
Polk MM651 coaxials for the rear
JL 10W3v3 Sub
JL 900/5 amp
My only complaint with the alpine nav unit is not being able to adjust settings on the fly, primarily my subwoofer level. Ive heard in the past there were ways to get around this bull**** "safety" measure, anyone know if its possible with this unit? Im a grown-*** man, i dont need someone dictating when/where/how i can adjust my bass level. I'll post some pics once i get everything put back together.

I'm assuming you can bypass that by using one these http://stores.ebay.com/Specialty-Ele..._fsub=14019920
I would call an installer to verify.
I can adjust my stuff on the fly and have the bypass installed.

Special thanks to everyone who contributes their wealth of knowledge to this board (JoeBoost, GATORB8, CrutchfieldJeff, etc.). Sorry about the quality of the pics but they were taken with my iphone. Had to do some fabrication on my stock pillars to make the component tweeters fit but i think it came out really nice. I had to trim the included ports from Polk that allow you to pivot them as well. The foxbox (sealed single 10 enclosure) of course looks great with a very clean look. I went with the red screen since i have red needles and such on my dials for the FX4 package. Couple of things i did that are worth mentioning: i integrated the little sync station or whatever you would call it at the bottom of the console so that it remains functional. The minijack extension for the auxillary input that comes with the nav unit has a rubber coating, which allows you to thread it right into the hole left if you remove the stock outlet. I also unplugged the stock USB cable at its source under the center channel speaker. It has a mini USB male on this end. I'm going to get an adpater so that i can plug this into the USB port on the back of the nav unit so that my factory USB port also remains functional. The last pic shows what it looks like when completed. Love the unit for the most part, couple of things that disappointed me:
1. My steering wheel control module is not working for some reason. I called crutchfield and alpine to make sure I have it all hooked up properly (which is near impossible to **** up, the perfect fit kit makes installation pretty idiot proof.) Have to test voltage at a few spots to see where the problem is, but the alpine guy suspects it is the black box that they send to integrate your factory controls with the nav unit.
2. I wish it had some sort of cool screen saver or something that would show on the screen rather than the rather bland homescreen thats always up. I have yet to discover one so im assuming it doesnt have this capability.
3. I mentioned earlier in this thread about the inability to adjust settings on the fly, but it looks like i'll be able to bypass that.
Again overall i couldnt be more pleased with the outcome, it sounds so damn good =). At first i was concerned about the plain black finish of the perfect fit trim, and would still ultimately like to have it match my stock trim. But it really doesnt look bad at all as is.

Mic is crystal clear from what everyone says, they dont even know its on speaker. I have it tucked in the corner under that leather-ish flap of trim on top of the steering column (right under the instrument cluster). Its real discreet there.

Sorry, yes I modified the dash kit brackets which works on the '04-'08 trucks without modifying the factory dash bezel. I will try to post a how to shortly. I have been traveling a fair bit.
