Amp wiring/Speaker box
#11
what will mostly decide whether your box is the right size is the quality of the sound. if the box is too small it will sound kind of high pitched and hit too short. What kind of subs and amps do your friends have?
Ported boxes can be for any setup, but you most likely dont need porting for your particular setup. The only way i know of to build a ported box is to look up the recommendations on box size, number of ports, diameter of ports, and length of ports... then go buy the ports and drill holes in them with a hole saw, or take them to my cousin who has a tool that cuts perfect circles.

Well before I can do anything else I need to make my amp produce sound. I had it turned all the way up the other day and about half way through the song it just quit. I'v had this happen before where I would just wait a while and when it cooled down it would come back on. But this time it won't. It still powers up but there is no sound.

check the fuses... sometimes the amp will still light up even with a blown fuse.

Inside the metal case? You're not talking the leads from the terminals to the cone are you? Solder won't work for those. Theyre usually a special wire with high flexibility, usually a tin with teflon, or something similar. If you solder that wire, the constant movement of it will cause it to break at the solder point, since solder is not flexible.

Yeah I just put a crimp on it for now. I should be getting two more of the same speaker here in a week or two. So I'll have two good ones. When I get them should I run them on two different chanels or I was thinking about running them both in parrallel out of the bridged output.
