That amp has speaker level inputs. I'd bypass the LOC which does look kinda cheap, and run the factory speaker wires straight to the amp. It is possible the LOC could be causing the problem and running the factory speaker wires straight to the amp could fix it. As was mentioned, don't use the factory sub outputs as they clip really bad.

The amp only has RCA inputs or else I would've skipped the LOC. I turned the gain on the LOC and the bass boost on the amp down to where it's not any louder than the stock sub. At this point I would be happy with the factory sub

The gain isn't a volume control, it's used to match inputs so if setting the gains really low fixes the problem then something is set top high and its clipping which is possibly overheating the amp.

With that amp, you can run the rear factory speaker wires into the high level inputs bypassing the LOC. You wouldn't need to use RCA's at all with that configuration.

Maybe you're seeing something I'm not but there are no speaker inputs on the amp. There are two different RCA inputs and two speaker outputs

http://mediacdn.jlaudio.com/media/mf...pdf?1346353162

page 6 of manual....

2) Hi-Level Inputs: If your system does not offer
a preamp level signal option, you can connect
speaker level signals directly to the “Hi-Level
Inputs” connector using the supplied mating
connector and wire harness. Simply splice the
appropriate left/right and positive/negative
wires to the included harness and plug the
harness into the “Hi-Level Inputs” connector
on the amplifier. The JX monoblock will
attenuate the high-level signal to make it
compatible with its input stage.

I see, I don't have the supplied mating connector it talks about. I bought this amp used off craigslist about a year and a half ago.

Yeah maybe contact JL Audio and see if they can sell you one. These amps are still being manufactured so they should have some they can sell you.

Luckily my local audio shop had one so I went and picked it up yesterday. So far so good with the amp running like it's supposed to. It worked fine on my 35 minute commute to work today and when I went to lunch.

I hope this is the end of my nightmare. All I wanted was a little more bass than factory lol
