aftermarket headunit and Sync
I had a Kenwood DNX573s installed in my truck last week and had the harness that is supposed to incorporate the sync system in the truck and keep the steering wheel buttons functional.
If the stereo is on, the read out above reads "sync line in" and does not show the time. Is this how is should work? Is there another option? pressing the sync button turns off the radio, and its a nightmare to get back to it.
The steering wheel buttons work intermittently.
was this wired correctly and i just need to learn how it works?

Which steering wheel control adapter did you use?
Did you set the jumpers to reflect there's a Kenwood attached?
I upgraded my base 4.2" system with a Kenwood DNX694S using the PAC dash kit and it works very well. Of course, I had to remove all of my old Sync components and let the PAC controller manage the steering wheel and CANBUS inputs.

If they used the PAC dash kit, everything should have been plug and play and it does require the removal of the old head unit, Sync module and screen.

the factory stereo was the basic non-screen version. no screen, no nav. Not sure if that narrows it down enough.
In my original post I'm referring the the small rectangular screen thats above the radio. It used to read direction time temp
now it always says direction "Sync Line In" temp

I just put aftermarket Pioneer in my 2010 F150. The only input I had before on the Sync panel was Aux jack no USB, I had the basic single CD radio. I'm glad my direction and outside temp still works, but where your says Sync Line In, mine now says Mustang GT. I did not see any upgrade in performance of the truck as a result of being a Mustang GT.

If i hit SYNC it then turns the radio off completely and switches to phone.
Part of the problem is that the stock radio was dead when i bought it, so I'm not sure what normal functionality looked like or what to expect when a new head unit is installed
