I have the Advent head unit, which has some great feature, like an 8" screen, navigation, sirius radio, and a B/U camera. I love all those feaures. I bouhgt the Kicker Soundtage system and upgraded the front speakers to JL audio 6.5 components. I'm 75 % happy with the sound quality. The sound is clear and accurate for the most part but I think It needs more power to get to 100%. I have around $2000 in everything.
If I had the money, I'd like to gt a JL hd 900/5 amp, Hertz component speakers and a JL 10" shallow sub in a sealed box. I'm not sure that would be the perfect system, but it wuld be better than what I have. The only problem is cost. Just the components would be an additional $2500-$3000 plus wiring and install, keeping the same head unit.
another system I've thought about is an Alpine 445u amp for the doors with some Hertz speakers and a JL Stealthbox 10" powered sub. That would be similar size wise to what I have, but better components. I wouldn't go from what I have to that, but if I were starting out, I would consider it. That might be a good system for you.

Components aren't hard to install if you're mechanically inclined. There ar several youtube videos for your specific truck and good threads with pictures here in the forum. You shouldn't be afraid to try.

If your budget is $2000 not sure why his suggested amp doesn't fit your budget, especially if your gonna install yourself. Like u said, you get what you pay for. Fwiw, I did a simple kicker soundstage upgrade in my 2015. I'm impressed with the amount of bass, I just wish I could adjust if because from song to sing or station to station it would be useful.

Do the Big 3 at the end if you need it. I'm pushing over 1500 watts spec wise with two 10" sundown subs and I'm fine....

but my truck is a 2014....

I was planning on doing the Big 3 regardless. Seems like it gives a big benefit for the price.
