And it starts... This weekend my son and I started the box build for two Image Dynamics ID8's in a sealed enclosure. Will power this with an "old-School" HiFonics Odin VII amp getting it's signal from an AudioControl LC2i. Still trying to settle on the rest of the system but now leaning towards the following.

Front Speakers - Focal Integration ISS 690
Rear Speakers - Rockford Fosgate Prime R1675X2
Door Speaker Amp - Kicker KEY180.4

I have an idea on how I'm going to finish the box... but will share it after I complete it. Just incase it doesn't work well. LOL

Cheers!
Capt. Jan

Any reason you chose particle board rather than MDF?

I was going to ask the same question. Looks good so far and if it's strong enough to hold up then why not.

Yea, was waiting for someone to call me out for that. LOL

See that kid in the picture... =) Since this was a learning opportunity with my son I didn't want to splurge on materials. This way he can make mistakes, learn from them and move on without putting a hurt on the budget. We've got a long way to go before it's completed so still plenty of time for learning mistakes. If we have to rebuild the box from scratch the NBD.

Secondly, if this was a box for 4 12' and 2000W then yes I'd go MDF no questions asked. But it's a small box for 2 8's at 300W. 5/8" particle is perfectly strong when assembled properly. The box is glues/screwed and sealed.

I remember "way back" in the mid 90's a Dutch company did sound analysis on MDF and particle board (of that era) and from a sound standpoint the differences were minimal.

Not calling you out by any means

Enjoy the time with your son! He will look back on it fondly some day. Heck, I made my box for my build with my dad, and he's 70. It was a good time for sure, despite my math failings and having to remake the entire thing lol. Fairly certain I've made a box or two out of particle board in the past

Let me know how you like those Focals. I was torn between those, the Morels, and the JL. I ended up going with the JL and am quite pleased with them.

No worries. Once I purchase and install the speakers I'll update the thread.

Cheers

Curious why you wouldn't just use an Lc-6i since you are going to be adding a 4 channel amp down the road.

The LC-6i wouldn't be needed if he plans on using the $30 OBD2 tool and Forescan. Much cheaper way to do things.

Well, put a hurt on the CC. Everything to finish off the system has been ordered. Once everything arrives we'll spend the next several weeks planning and doing the install. I'll take some pictures along the way and share our experiences. I'm really curious to hear the difference the speaker make before and after adding the Kicker Key amp. Specifically how well the amp and do it's auto EQ and time alignment.

One question, the Audio Control Lc2i has a bass ****. I'm looking at different places to install the ****. I have some idea's but wanted to see where y'all have done the installs.

Cheers
