FX4 stereo upgrade
After much research, I decided to upgrade the stereo on my 2012 FX4.
Here are the components I decided to install:
Polk Audio MM6501 components up front
Polk Audio MM651 coaxial in rear
Polk Audio MM1240DVC sub
Precision Power 900.5 amp
Precision Power INT.5B processor
I used the metra BT5520 to tap into the factory sync system, soldering and heat shrinking every connection. I used a 9 conductor wire run down the driver side to the INT.5B, I ran new 16 Ga. speaker wire directly from the amp to all the speakers,except the sub is 12 Ga. (the passenger side actually runs up through the head liner to avoid being near the 4 Ga. power wire.) I also used the walmart cutting board speaker mounting trick, worked awesome. The amp and processor are mounted to a piece of 1/8" dry erase board that I glued on to a piece of 1/4" plywood, plenty strong and under 1/2" total thickness because I wanted to stay as far from the backseat as possible. For the tweeters, I hand filed the factory mount to open them up, very tedious, but I think they turned out well. I also mounted the processor bass control **** inside the center console
The sub is a dual voice coil, which I paralleled down to a 2 ohm load. It pounds!
The sound is absolutely amazing, between the MM series speakers and the PPI amp, I could not be any happier!
