2011 F150 FX4 Speaker Suggestions
Hey Guys,
I'm new to the forum, looking for any opinions on these two different speakers or if you would like to recommend something else...
I'm looking at either Polk Audio DXi570 or Rockford R1682...
I do plan on adding an in dash dvd/ipod/gps system along with two subs and a amp if that helps make the case for one or another...
Thanks!

Go with the Polks. IMHO RF makes good subs, but their speakers are not that good. Are you going to amp the door speakers? If so I would go with a 6 3/4 rather than the 5x7. Oval speakers tend to not sound as clean as round ones due to the load not being even on the cone. This warping causes distortion. There is a reason you don't see oval speakers in highend sound quality set ups. The only time I would run a oval speaker (6x9, 5x7, 6x8) is if there is not going to be a sub in the system. Good luck.

(DISCLAIMER - This is NOT intended to be an argument for a coaxial vs separate components, so please refrain from making those arguments)
I have the Polk MM651's and I love them. I tried the MM6501's (they were used and broken in) and aside from a tiny bit of separation, they sound 95% similar to the 651's. Both speakers sounded incredible IMO. I ended up putting the 651's in my Trans Am and decided to give the Polk dB571's a go. Got all (4) dB571's in and they sounded decent (much better than I expected). However, they just didn't have the midbass type punch that the 6 1/2's (6 3/4's) offered. Which brings me to my issue.
Since I have the 04-08 style doors, I am pretty much unhappy with Ford's decision (probably just like everyone else) on the use of 5x7's or 6x8's. I recently helped a guy install his Polk Audio MM691 6x9's in his front doors. A little dremel work was required but it was actually easier than I thought it was going to be. We put his door panel back on and OMG! I COMPLETELY did not expect the MM691's to sound THAT good. He was pushing them with a Polk Audio PA 4000.4 (4 channel amp @ 4 ohms / 125w per channel). I had always thought that a 6x9 speaker would sound far inferior to a nice component set. I was wrong.
The midbass reproduction was extremely fantastic. He cranked the H*LL out of those 6x9's and they remained super crisp and very detailed. I was sooo impressed that I told my son he can have my dB571's. I just purchased (4) MM691's yesterday and plan on installing them as soon as I am able to. The Polk MM691's simply blew away Polk's dB571's.. not even CLOSE to be compaired side by side.
For those who have this setup (or a similar 6x9 setup), how has your experience been with them? Are you happy with 6x9's? If you specifically own the MM691's, can you confirm (or deny) that they sound incredible? A 6x9.. huh.. who would have ever guessed? ..haha! (I am still in shock)!

Image Dynamics and Massive Audio both make kick ***, high power, high sens, 6x9 component setups.

Well I have 1/2" birch wood laying around and I am curious if I should use it. I was thinking about making a 6x9 ring or should I just do a direct bolt to the door type setup? ..hmmm decisions decisions decisions

They will probably hit the window mechanics if you don't use a spacer. My infinity 5x7's hit.
