Audio upgrade advice please...
Hey guys!
So i've decided to upgrade every speaker in my 2012 FX4 10 speaker Sony Nav. I'm looking for some advice on whether a signal processor is needed or just overkill. Keep in mind i'll be still using my oem stock head unit. My kit includes:
Center channel speaker, tweeters and all doors. As well, 8 channel 2,000 watt amp. I'm hoping to power each speaker via the amp. All speakers are 6.5" except for center channel
All speakers are Focal brand. With a rating of anywhere between 8o-120 watts at 4ohms.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Rob

I don't even think ive ever seen an 8 channel amplifier... in any case, it does not sound ideal and would be the size of a Mini Cooper if it had any sort of quality components and build quality.
Get yourself a good 5 channel amp with 65-90 watts stereo and 500 watts mono for the sub, that is MORE than enough to have your system sound amazing. If you want to go active then all the more to you but I would suggest rethinking a single 8 channel amplifier.
If you dont get a signal processor than you might as well sell the Focal's and buy Rockford or Kicker speakers because they will sound the same. You will absolutely want to get a signal processor like an Audison Bitone or a JBL MS8 or the Focal's potential is null & void with the factory EQ. Seen it all to many times...

Man if you are absolutely dead set on keeping your OEM stereo (which I wouldn't do), I say yes to the signal processor. I guess I can see why you wanna stay OEM HU, since you have the nav and all but eeer.
I do wander what kind of amp you are buying that supplies 2,000 watts, and why you want it.
It is a free country and all, but I can't imagine why you would need that much power (assuming the amp you are getting actually supplies that much with no distortion) for the set up you described.
A really decent set up can be achieved with less than 1,000 (clean) watts. Subwoofer, or even 2 included. Just keep that in mind before you get started.

First imo you are getting too complicated, there is really not much 5.1 audio anymore and you aren't going to have a source to watch movies so whats the point of the center channel?
If you are stuck on keeping a center channel, its best to not skimp on the size because most all of the vocals come through the center when running 5.1. It just would sound better if you run a 6.5 there too, might require some fab work. But like I said imo you dont need it anyway.
If you want to run your mids and tweeters up front off separate channels you really need to know how to tune it so it sounds right. Just run your components and rears off a 4 channel amp and then your sub/subs off a mono amp. That or a nice 5 channel amp.
If you are going that complicated a processor is defiantly needed imo. But you also need to know how to tune it and have the proper equipment to set your gains, crossover points, etc.

Thanks guys for all the advice. I'm sure how I made such a horrible typo. It's a 5 channel 1,000 watt max amp (crunch).
I do want to keep tha nav head unit. So with all your help I went and got the Rockford Fosgate 3SIXTY.3. Hopefully this will be all I need to make the system sound great.
Again, thanks for all the input as it was very helpful.
Cheers!
