Not easy but two amatures pulled it off
in 4 hours. BUT anyone know of an
adaptor to connect the stock 6 disc changer
to the head unit. Bought all new stuff from
crutchfield but no adaptor. The end that
plugs into the head unit looks like
an oversized S cable. Appreciate all the
info on this forum it helped give me the
b__ls to pull it off
I'm glad the instructions worked for you, they were actually written for the 04-08s though.

I looked around and I think you may be out of luck with the cd changer adapter.

Does the 07 have a hidden USB port somewhere? and if it does what format does the files need to be in to play on the radio? MP3 or what?

No USB port, just the standard 3.5mm (headphone jack) line in. The MP3 printed on the face of the radio just means it can play CDs loaded with MP3s.

Just got a factory 6disc/MP3 headunit from a member here. Installed it in my truck and the radio works fine but no matter what cd I put in (store bought/burned/burned mp3) it tells me "Bad Disc". Any ideas or did I just get beat for a headunit???

Default just a thanks

this is just an awesome thread. Thank you very much, as to now there are no more questions I need to ask! Jumping into a new truck and trying to figure out all this stuff can be a nightmare, but with this thread, there aren't really any things lurking around the corner to be afraid of during install.. Thank you.!

Did you get an F150 head, or one from something else?

TSB 05-6-9

FORD: 2005 Five Hundred, Focus, Freestyle, Mustang, F-150
MERCURY: 2005 Montego

ISSUE:
Some 2005 Freestyle, Five Hundred/Montego vehicles built 5/17/2004 through 2/24/2005, and 2005 Mustang, Focus, F-150 vehicles, all vehicles equipped with a single or 6 disk CD player with MP3 capability, may exhibit one or more of the following intermittent CD player concerns.

CD player skips
Locks up when playing homemade CDs
Displays "Error" or "Bad Disc"
Will not accept CDs
CD inoperative or inconsistent playability of some CDRs.

ACTION:
Replace CD player with latest service level through your facing audio service center. When replacing the audio unit (radio) on 2005 Freestyle, Five Hundred, Montego and Mustang vehicles it is necessary to perform programmable module installation (PMI) prior to removal of the old audio unit. This information must be uploaded into the new audio unit once installed. Failure to perform PMI on the new audio unit may result in inoperative backlighting and/or diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B2477. If communication cannot be established with old audio unit to download this information, as built data will need to be used. As built data can be obtained at the Professional Technician Society (PTS) website or at www.motorcraft.com. For additional information, refer Workshop Manual Section 415-01 and 418-01.

Ok I'm lost as to what any of that means lol. I'll have to pull it out and see if any of those numbers are listed on it. So what you're saying is to make it work I'll need to take it to the dealership and have them reprogram it??? Sorry I just don't really understand what you posted.

Here's the pics of the unit from the seller I got it from. Maybe this will help.

Yeah, I thought you bought that one from exitwound. I remember him saying that the head was from something other than an F150 so there is a chance that the Technical Service Bulletin above applies.

I've also heard about these radios having a "shipping mode" that locks the changer to prevent damage, but I'm not real sure. Try searching for "bad disc" on a few of the mustang and fusion forums and see if you find something.

The easiest way to go would be to get with exitwound and see if there was insurance on the package, and just use the money to get another radio.

By the way, you've got an audiophile sub to go with that radio, right? If not you won't have any bass.

Yeah he said if Ford doesn't figure it out he'll refund me my money. No I don't have an audiophile sub to go with it and I was wondering why there is no bass. I think I'm just gonna sell this locally and buy an aftermarket one LoL. Seems to be less headaches that way.

He's a question I could find the answer to... I have a 2005 F150 XL with the single CD unit. As I was looking through the list of iPod adapters for the AUX button, I noticed none of them support my unit. Is there one that is more generic that might work? Also, I am considering upgrading to an in-dash DVD player. Will my speed/volume control still work on an aftermarket unit or should I look for a Ford stock unit? and will an iPod adapter work then?
