16 SCrew non Sony Upgrade project

Yeah, I have looked at the install videos and it does not look too bad. It is more a time than effort thing. I won't have free time to do it for a few weeks, and I can pay to have them installed this weekend. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I am at a point in my life/career that I have more money than time.

Just picked the truck up during lunch from getting the hideaway installed. I have not had much time to play with it or try to adjust it, but so far here are my impressions. It definitely fills in the bottom end with bass very nicely. It may be a little lacking on the bottom end for heavy bass hip hop or dance/electro, but other than that it sounded very good with everything else I sampled with it. Again, I have not had much time to adjust settings, but so far I will say that I am glad that I am upgrading the other speakers as well. To me, the added low end actually makes the muddy mid's and hi's even more noticeable. I may try to adjust some, but not going to put too much effort into getting everything adjusted until I get the other speakers installed.

The next round of equipment showed up yesterday, now all I need it the wiring harness adapters and all will be set for installing the door speakers this weekend. I will say that with some tweaking, the overall sound is better now, but I still have a pretty distinct roll off between the sub and mid bass from the stock speakers. I suspect that playing with the crossover could help with that, but I am not going to mess with that until I get the Polks installed. Anything that I did now would have to be done again. Once the Polks are installed I will start at about 80hz and go from there. The sub freq range is 25-120 and the Polks are 50-20k. 80hz should be a good point to avoid any dead spots between the two, both should be able to handle 80 and mask any roll off from the other.

I do not have the hideaway but I do have a kicker amp with the bass ****. This is where I mounted my Kicker bass ****. Post #13 and it is sideways so adjust as needed to get the right view. Hidden well and accessible when needed.
Driver side where the tray storage area below the center console. The little piece unclips and I used a small bolt and nut to mount the metal strip for my control ****. Then put the control **** on and clipped back in place. No issues or movement.

I couldn't leave it alone. Had a little time at luch to go play so thought I would flip down the seat and see how the installer had the hideaway setup. Turns out crossover was all the way up and so was bass boost. I turned bass boost off and set the crossover at approximately 80hz. Made an improvement in the overall sound AND eliminated a good bit of the roll off between the sub and mid bass. Had to turn the remote bass **** up about 25% to level things back out. Even though I am replacing the speakers, why not try to get it adjusted to provide info to people who may do just the hideaway.
