Just installed a Kenwood DNX874S HU in my 17 xlt. Upgraded from a factory 4.2" sync display with no add ons. I used a maestro RR and FTR 1 kit from iDatalink and the install process has been pretty straight forward. I am able to retain all of the sync functionality (SW controls, bluetooth calls with the stock microphone, etc...). Since the truck did not have a backup camera from the factory, I decided that I would add in my own OEM backup camera and even though I haven't received all of those parts yet, I think I have the wiring figured out for it, (can update on that later). The HU is a great, albeit 7", screen (~$600) but it looks great with the iDatalink kit and has Garmin nav built in. If you use the maestro, it runs the audio from sync right into the HU and so there are multiple ways to play music or place calls (sync music and calls with BT connected to sync, HU music and calls with BT connected to HU, or good old wired aux cable and usb for android auto. I also have a kenwood dash cam wired directly into the HU which allows file storage on the HU itself. All in all, the above total was around ~1200, with the HU/RR/FTR1 kit coming in around 850.

Has anyone been able to nail down a harness other than 4dtech?

No your best bet is 4dtech they are spendy but there harness is nice. I've seen people put together navigation kits for under $800. If u can find a nav apim and screen for $6-700 then usb hub $50 and bezel for $100-150 its doable. If u want Sirius xm or hd radio that runs another $100-150 or so but then it looks and functions like it's a factory 8" screen truck. His harness includes everything to hook up your backup camera also. The 2018 truck with 4" doesnt need a harness because the wiring is the same between as factory 8" trucks and already is equipped with the GPS antenna u need and the xm antenna. The only change is to add a power and ground wire to the usb hub the 2017 and older conversion harness includes this.
