I had wondered if that was even possible. I use a lifeproof phone case and constantly plugging it in isn't really an option. Doing so will break the plug cover after about 2 months.
I could do without android auto if I had a great performing nav system, but need to retain the functions at the beginning of the thread.

I've seen those kits. What head unit would I use to check the most boxes and stay under $1k?

Kenwweod excelen should fit the bill. I’d also hit up hushaudio on here. He’ll prolly get you a better deal that what you can get on your own.

What sync or other oem functions will I lose with the Kenwood?

Not sure. I’d look it up on YouTube. I think it retains all the sync functions which is what I’ve seen advertised.

You should be able to do it for $1K. There are SYNC2 setups that show up here all the time for $200-300. I went from Sync 2 to Sync 3 for less than $1K.

How did you make this happen? From what I have read this is a major PIA without harnesses and proper programming.

There are members here that program all of your options for you. It plugged right in for me. Took about 30 minutes to swap out. The hardest part was putting the new USB hub in which required soldering two wires. Keep an eye on the classifieds or post a wanted ad for the setup and the price you're willing to pay. You'll get several offers.

Who can do the programing?
How do I know what unit will be compatible with me truck? 2016 XL Screw. Basically what would be an STX now without the 8" display. Where do I buy the harnesses?

Im like $1200 in maybe.. closer to 1k.. I had the 4" also and upgraded to a sync 3 8" The only thing I am dealing with now is a programming issue, but I bought the OBDII port to fix with FORScan and should be here tomorrow. I bought the harness off 4dtech and the rest off of ebay and it was not difficult to find the stuff needed. I would much rather someone program it for me so it could be a true plug and play but if I can do it with FORScan tomorrow then I will have saved about $800, which is worth it to me.
